Interesting answers to questions, part 1

From a questionnaire sent to all Special Election candidates in Council District 30 by the League of Preservation Voters and the Historic Districts Council:

Q: DO YOU SUPPORT THE PROPOSAL OUTLINED IN PLANYC 2030 TO ALTER THE RIDGEWOOD RESERVOIR FOR RECREATIONAL USE?

COMO: Parks, greenspace, and open areas are important to a healthy and prosperous New York City. Therefore, I support the PlaNYC 2030 plan for the Ridgewood Reservoir. I support the preservation of the two water basins for greenspace and wildlife conservation balanced with the utilization of one basin for moderate recreational use. This balance will allow for the appreciation of nature and the importance of having the fields for moderate physical activity.

CROWLEY: No, I do not support the proposal outlined in PlaNYC 2030 to alter the Ridgewood Reservoir for recreational use. Instead, I strongly support the Ridgewood Reservoir Education and Preservation Project’s efforts to make the Reservoir an environmental educational facility.

OBER: I do not support the current proposals to alter the Ridgewood Reservoir for intensive recreational use. The Reservoir must be preserved in as close a natural state as it can be with some work done to remove dangerous conditions and prepare nature trails for passive recreation. The rest of Highland Park could be upgraded with ball fields and other facilities to serve the neighborhood.

OGNIBENE: If my memory serves me, if you do a careful study of the survey of the Reservoir you will note that the reservoir itself is “owned” by DEP and not the Parks Department. There are studies that show that it must be maintained as a reservoir to meet future NYC water supply needs.

SURACI: Yes.

Mr. Como: The typical machine candidate who believes in always compromising.
Ms. Crowley: A firm commitment
Mr. Ober: Takes firm commitment a step further by offering a solution.
Mr. Ognibene: You may want to catch up on current events before you answer the next question.
Mr. Suraci: Echoes Como but at least does so without the superfluous bullshit.

Best answer: Ober.

The next question will be posted on Monday.

Thank crappie, for posting this. It is good for us to review this question by question.

Pity the newspapers, with real estate ads and politicians press releases can't do the job they were designed to do.
