Professional soccer is coming to Queens — and York College in Jamaica — next spring.

City officials on Tuesday joined the owner of Queensboro FC to announce plans to build a 7,500-seat stadium on a plot of land just south of York’s Health and Physical Education building.

The stadium will be bounded by 160th Street to the west, Tuskegee Airmen Way to the south and Guy R. Brewer Boulevard to the east.

Queensboro FC is an expansion team in the United Soccer League and will begin play in 2022. In addition to QBFC games and practices, the facility will host York’s commencement ceremonies, CUNY Athletic Conference tournament play, and other events both free and ticketed.

“York College is honored to be the host site for Queensboro FC’s home stadium,” York President Berenecea Johnson Eanes said in a statement issued by CUNY and the club. “We believe their contributions as a community-led sporting organization will greatly advance our facilities, our campus experience, and our neighborhoods. This project will showcase the importance of private and public sectors coming together, and working together, to celebrate diversity and bridge communities.”

Jonathan Krane, the club owner, said it was an exciting day for the team.

“The announcement of our home stadium site at York College represents a bold new chapter for professional sports in New York City,” Krane said. “More importantly, we are proud to deliver our QBFC fans a dedicated soccer specific venue, built by and for the Queens community, bringing us all together to celebrate the beautiful game.”

When you buy a ticket, do you get a bullet proof vest with it? I'm sure people will be falling all over each other to get a ticket.

A perfect location! They just hosted the FEMA site for Covid vaccinations. It was a lovely site.

BTW, there is an abandoned cemetery opposite the physical education building. Someone needs to get in there and do something with this historical site. First Methodist Cemetery has been neglected for some time. Speaking of Crap ... a historic treasure gone to ruin

The stadium will add to the ambiance of the neighborhood chop shops.

A stand alone WNBA arena would be more profitable than this.

Cant understand a game without 50 commercial breaks, multiple timeouts, and without “athletes” with asses as big as hippos. Must be some kind of communist game from Europe.

Maybe it'll bring some actual non garbage people to the area to buy out all those nasty lowlives that live in that area. They want to live around the Barclay's center, why not around a soccer stadium? Wait until the traffic comes into that area. Your car will be broken into by one of those crackheads who live in the projects just a few blocks away

York College- home of the Scams - starting with Dinkens putting a leg of the E train to Sutphin Blvd- NY State building a new family court on Jamaica Ave, the feds putting in a Social Security building on same avenue - all the government money included welfare benefits can’t pull that neighborhood out of the ghetto hole it loves to wallow in. Teen agers quit high school opting out for GEDs thanks to the extreme gang violence. Drug dealing, loan sharking, sex trafficking and now a soccer stadium? The pork barrel is open for business at York College- they will be making money on this too.

With all of your Jamaica-bashing, does any one of you even know that there is a Specialized High School at York?

Quite frankly, we are sick of your scorn for Jamaica and misrepresentations!!

If they disrespect the National Anthem, I won't bother. I don't need more dumb jocks pushing their politics at me when I just want to watch a game.

To last Anonymous: No matter how much reductive, institutionalized and propagandized educatation that these 'awakened' students of post capitalism receive (and near future, modern, corporate-zombie-sweatship wage slaves), NO ONE is EVER going to give them the education that they so desperately need to overthrow them!
