NYC Thrive continues sending city money and services into the void

THE CITY

In the fall of 2017, the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene signed a contract to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to rehab a 14,000-square-foot former IRS office inside an anonymous beige Bronx building covered with graffiti.

The project was part of a key criminal justice reform Mayor Bill de Blasio adopted in 2014. The idea: to create state-of-the-art “diversion centers” staffed by mental health experts where police could drop off people experiencing mental health crises instead of escorting them to hospital ERs or jail — institutions ill-equipped to deal with their needs.

The city committed $52 million to fix up and run the Bronx facility for a decade. But nearly four years later, the place sits empty.

Meanwhile, the city dedicated $51 million to a similar operation in East Harlem that opened this past November. The number of people brought in for help so far: 45, or $1.1 million per visit.

Diversion centers eventually became part of the Mayor’s Office of ThriveNYC, a broader program run by de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, to improve the lives of New Yorkers struggling with mental health issues.

ThriveNYC has come under fire for costs upwards of $1 billion and for the administration’s inability to provide evidence the program is working. Last week, de Blasio rebranded ThriveNYC — changing its name to the Mayor’s Office of Community Mental Health.

The purpose behind diversion centers was to stop cycling people with mental illness through the criminal justice system instead of getting them treatment and other services.

Meanwhile, deadly encounters between NYPD officers and people in emotional distress have led to 18 fatalities in the last five years — driving demands to remove cops from the equation.

Even as the diversion centers sit empty or underused, de Blasio made the surprise announcement April 29 that another $112 million would be spent on a new program to pair EMT teams with social workers to handle 911 calls citywide about people having a breakdown, without sending police.

EMTs, though, aren’t signing up in big numbers.

You can say the only diversion center that actually functions in this city is de Blasio and McCray's joint mayoralty budget money laundering apparatus in City Hall.

What a complete waste of $$ that could have gone into anti crime.
Useless because the nutters can still legally refuse to take their medication.
Its called patients rights.
Nothing can fix defective and damaged brains, Counseling and social workers is useless.
Once released they sell or toss the meds and are back to talking to trees, shitting in doorways, attacking and pushing people under trains.
These people need some kind of medication implant inside the body they cant remove.
Or 2 ship fix up the old big hospitals and buildings on North Brother Island and home them there. Also a slew of huge empty hotels up in the Yiddish Alps that can be had for a song. (huge hotels isolated in the Catskill Mountains in New York that were dubbed the “borscht belt” or “borscht circuit for the Jewish 1920s to 1970s)

If you not gonna isolate them up permanently let law abiding citizens with no criminal records carry firearms (or at least tasers or electric cattle prods).
Many are not even from New York, other states fix their problems by handing these nuts bus and train tickets to here.
Visit any bus or Amtrak station to see new arrivals making scenes and stinking up the place.

And when we call a local politician they either do not answer the phone or after a half dozen calls give us a 'magic minute.'

All on our tab.

The reporter finally admitted what Dumblazio is up to:

"You can say the only diversion center that actually functions in this city is de Blasio and McCray's joint mayoralty budget money laundering apparatus in City Hall."

Just as I have said all along THRIVE is the piggy bank sitting in Dumblazio's sock drawer for Charlaine to do her duty in the future as New York's first female Mayor of color.

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to add to the severity of this problem. I was informed yesterday by my brother n law that there is a major shortage of truck drivers. His company usually has an average of 120 rolling, right now, they are struggling with 30-40, on a good day. Our railways and pipelines get shut down, our economy will really hit the brakes, and, everything will sky rocket in price. WELCOME TO BIDEN / HARRIS LAND!!!

@MHow

That reporter who said that was me.

The actual reporter is posted in italics.

Professional Journalists are kept on very short leashes when reporting and questioning the Blaz. It's why he's been able to get away with all this tweeding bullshit for 8 years.

I thought subway stations were the diversion centers. If you can get vaccinated in them can’t you get counseling from a quack there too?
What credentials do any of these Thrive NYC counselors have besides being another drain on the City payroll?
Ever call a domestic violence or mental health hotline? Know anyone who has? Useless.
Like the Harm Reduction follies that sucks up city, state and federal funds. They do
The most good for their employees.

@anon, RE:" I was informed yesterday by my brother n law that there is a major shortage of truck drivers."
Yes there has been a shortage of truck drivers for a few years now, that is only getting worse. Mainly because tight-wad asshole employers insist on paying peanuts and treating their drivers like garbage.

The liberal mind will always bury the truth, promote lies and unleash poverty by overspending our money until becomes worthless, by the time they come up with the next stimulus bill our economy will be unrecoverable and all hell will break loose for three generations or beyond!

The Democrats just waste our money on worthless programs and hurt the people they claim to be representing. Case and point; Nasty Piglosi and her freezer filled with all the damn ice cream she can afford during the plandemic while her constituents are having to struggle looking for work. The Democratic Party do NOT represent the little guy as they claim; they only care about themselves.

Yes True, All the news outlets must now request credentials and access from the Mayors Office of Media. If you insult the mayor you and the company you work for get locked out for a long time.
The news is no longer the news, its a controlled mouthpiece like communist country's have.
