Council to place speed bump in front of Sadik-Khan

From the NY Observer:

The City Council appears to be trying to stand up to Janette Sadik-Khan, the Bloomberg administration’s relatively radical and innovative transportation commissioner who has rapidly closed down car lanes and replaced them with bike lanes and open space across the city.

Two separate bills that are slated to be heard before the Council’s Transportation Committee on Thursday would throw new layers of public review at the Department of Transportation, forcing it to come before the local community boards with detailed plans before it implements any pilot initiatives or other major projects.

Their sponsors say the bills, Int. 1063 and Int. 1077, are a direct reaction to the fast-moving policies at DOT under Ms. Sadik-Khan, as the Council members say they’ve felt burned due to a lack of a thorough community review before projects took effect.

The Council needs to use this legislation as an opportunity to begin to take control of city agencies.

The Commissar needs to be slapped down, and this is just as good a reason to do so.

If he vetoes this legislation, the Council has to override the veto.

On its own merits, the into is what we need. But, it also represents a great occasion to seize control.

It's always: Either control or be controlled.

She didn't get her job on her merits!

"She didn't get her job on her merits!"

Really? Maybe you ought to do a little reading about her background before you make such silly comments.

But, what can you expect from a blog such as this.....

Why are some bike lanes created that go "nowhere". E.g. the one on 38th Street in Astoria.

They are used by foodies to travel from restaurant to restaurant. I can't believe I used the term foodie.

the city council democrats in the transportation committee are beholden to their campaign donors.they do not care that developers are destroying residential property, because of their political influenced decisions.
check out 196-29 42 avenue,in auburndale, queens. the landlord of Comptroller candidate,John C.Liu is building a day care center, that will hold 250 plus ,two-six year olds, in a sub-basement,basement, and two stories above ground.the d.o.b. and d.o.t. approved ,even though the site is a mapped street?

Liu is chairman of the city council transportation com. and was a recipient of donations from his landlord.
no on site parking is available and the intersection is unsafely congested, because of P.S.130 traffic ,across the avenue.
Senator Schumer,'s(dem.),wife was the commissioner of d.o.t.!!
CPB 11 REJECTED THIS SITE FOR THIS CENTER.
is it not time for local boards to veto the irresponsible decisions of the city council and city agencies, who are corrupt?
presently this site has a STOP WORK ORDER!!

I've lived in Flushing my whole life. Growing up all I knew was American New Yorkers eg Puerto Ricans, Greeks African Americans, Colombians and Italians. Now that I'm older I seem to find nothing but non-Americans and the likes on norhtern boulevard.

This city went to shit.

In the Rockaways, bikes are painted in the middle of the lanes on a two lane road with no parking and barely enough room to fit a car in each lane. Look into who has the painting contract, connect the dots.
