MTA not going her way

From CBS 2:

[Lara] Tepper bought her latest LIRR ticket just like always – at the window of the Hicksville station.

But when she boarded the train last Wednesday, the conductor punching tickets told her it was a fake.

"Automatically, I said, 'No it's not, I bought it from the office,'" Tepper said.

But after several conductors looked it over, Tepper was turned over to the MTA Police, who detained her in a holding cell for hours while they checked out her story.

Tepper said police took her jewelry, phone, money – even her belt and shoes.

"They treated me like I was a criminal," she said.

As it turned out, Tepper wasn't lying, and the conductor had been mistaken. When MTA Police checked with Hicksville hours later, they learned that the station was using a roll of outdated stock paper to print tickets.

The workers probably thought they were protecting their retirement income. Nothing worse than a crook trying to rip off the MTA. Before you know it they might have to make do like the rest of us.

Why would they detain her instead of have her pay the onboard fare and ride along? Why hasn't the clerk at the window noticed the tickets are outdated? Typical MTA stupidity.

When I purchase a Jones Beach pass for $12.00 it was unusable because the ticket machine only partially dispense the tickets.

Upon sending the usuable tickets in for a refund with an explanation of what had occurred, I received a form letter offering me a refund if I also included the ticket that I had never been issued.

MTA...Going to hell.

F#$%^ the MTA! My mother was a GAP victim at New Hyde Park and fell down the gap to her chest and had to have skin graft surgery as a result on top of the total fear she endured while in that gap. She won her case unanimously in January and now MTA is being a bunch of a$$holes! They want to appeal. The appelate judge suggested they pay a specific amount instead of the amount the jury awarded and they threw it in the judges' face and came back with a crap a$$ settlement. They are pissed cause they lost and their lawyer sucked and was an arrogant bastard. Now we say screw them and we don't want a settlement. We are gonna stick it to them in appeals court! Another sad thing is a friend of mine who is a bus driver for MTA says they are horrible to deal with. They will drag this out as much as they can! I HATE THE MTA!!!!

Getting rid of more clerks and adding more machines on the LIRR.

As to the MTA, love those new fares that make our cards with balances like $22.88.

$22.88 yeah what the hell is that? WTF am I gonna do with $.88 another way for them to bilk the public and line their pockets!

I love government-run agencies.

Yeah, they are hoping that when you go to swipe your card at the subway with, say $2.24 or less on it, you forget about it.

Notice the gates going onto the train dont say how much is on the card, just "insufficent fare?"

They are hoping you just think the card is empty, and throw away the card, with whatever balance is left on it.

Same thing with the muni-meters. You pay for 30min with your quarter, but only use 10min. that means someone else can hop in that spot and use that 20min that got left over. Not with muni meters, because you take the time with you when you leave. Next guy into the spot has to throw in a quarter for a spot that already was paid for for the same window of time.

Its all a way to increase revenue with returning a service.

Lara, sue them into oblivion!

The conductor and the MTA Police had the opportunity to promptly investigate and discover the real problem.

But, they chose to destroy the reputation and lock up and embarrass a person to suit their own lazy stupidity.

She can win money, but real justice will be handed out when everyone involved looses their job.

The MTA should step up and offer a free year of rides for her trouble. Maybe then they won't have to deal with a lawsuit and pay through the nose.

Offering her free rides and getting a release would have been a good idea. Last I heard her lawyers was suing them for $500,000. and will probably win.

Why is everyone always assumed guilty? What happened to innocent until proven guilty. This is a clear violation of her rights. She will sue, win, and rightfully so. How embarrasing! Wake up people! Can anyone at the MTA use common sense?
