Amish Market leaving Atlas Park

From the Queens Tribune:

Atlas Park lost one tenant in the middle of the night Monday, and a second major tenant is leaving this weekend.

Crazy For Animals, a pet gift and supply shop located next to Chili's by the front of the mall, which is located at 80th Street and Cooper Avenue in Glendale, moved out Monday night. The Amish Market, a gourmet food store set toward the rear of the site, will close as early as this weekend. Signs are posted on the door of the store noting the entire stock of merchandise is 25 percent off, and that the store is closing.

These two are the latest casualties in the war for the struggling shopping center to stay open despite a continued exodus of retailers and restaurants from the mall that sits squarely in a foreclosure battle.

very sad - I was just there. If you bring cash its 50% off. There was more people there today than I have ever seen. Such a shame. All because Steinmart wants to leave and rent their space to a supermarket. Who is going to shop there for food? Just crazy!

Wine store will not be closing. For the life of me I can't figure out why Amish was forced out, but it doesn't bode well for the fortunes of the French banks. This was a mistake, any way you look at it, and I doubt they will be able to fill the space for some time.

"All because Steinmart wants to leave and rent their space to a supermarket."

Atlas is attempting to EVICT Steinmart...

No - Steinmart wants to sublet to a supermarket. Amish was forced out because the lease says there won't be 2 of anything. Somehow that never applied to shoe stores but thats another story.

even @ 25% off they were till overpriced.

lmao, the owner went belly up and everyone is worried about amish market! that over charged on products. i would love to see new owners come in and put outlet stores, so we can do some real shopping and also they have to get rid of charging for parking. bring the right stores and free parking they'll make a killing. now what kind of stores would you like to be there? crap is there now!

The area needs a supermarket. Hopefully it will be reasonably priced. I'm tired of walking to Myrtle Ave to go food shopping @ Stop & Shop.

Correct me if I am wrong but arent there supermarkets all over the surrounding area?
Union Tpke, Myrtle Avenue, Metropolitan Avenue, Grand Avenue...

As for outlet stores; I thought we were trying to keep the rif raf out, not give them a reason to come in.

This place is going to go the way of Metro Mall and I think that all of you that dont live next door want to see it go that way.

What the place really needs is a GAP and other similar "not over the top" major retail stores but in this economy, good luck.

Outlet stores - not 99 cent discount stores - bring in good shoppers, not riff raff.

This is Queens, not Manhattan or Brooklyn. Here, a Zabars will always become a bodega.

Location, location, location!

The location of Atlas Park stinks...smack in the middle of cemetery city!

That's the main reason it's doomed to failure!

Yes, it was a "build it and they will come" dream. The location always struck me as ridiculous. But it's a nice space, a nice mall, nicer than totally indoor malls. I am still rooting for it to find viable tenants. In this economy, not an easy thing! The theater is pretty nice, except for the low-class patrons, but you can't get away from that! I thought Amish was way over-priced and had no real relation to anything Amish. Steinmart is handy for bargains for my hubby's work clothes. I HATE, HATE, HATE paying for parking there. What a rip! Especially if you've spent money. Why don't they comp you if you've bought.

And one time, we hgad parked but all the restaurants had long waits for tables so we left-- and still had to pay for @#$%^& parking because we were there for 18 minutes and the cut-off is 14. Really! That is not very friendly!

free parking with a minimum ($25?) is sorely needed. Free parking without any type of purchase would be a big mistake!

Its too bad about the Amish Market but I never liked the location it was in. The prices weren't that great either. The best place to put a "market" is on the ground level - where the bike store is or where they want to put the UPS store. A supermarket in Atlas Park will be a huge waste and kill the traffic in the neighborhood. Evicting Steinmart is also a very dumb idea.

Damon's build it and they will come pipedream.

The Amish Market was a food store that carried gourmet food from around the globe along with some everyday items. It didn't carry "Amish" products!

currently it is free parking for the first hour. I also like the idea of a real outlet mall (i.e. Tanger)

Free paking ..... this may not have happened.

I am scared at what will happen to this lovely place.

Damm you Hemindinger!!!!! You lied!

Lack of free parking is why Atlas was doomed from the start. We used to go to the farmers market there, but stopped because of the parking situation. Also, most of the shops there are too high end.
