NY1 investigates stinky junk pile in Elmhurst

From NY1:

It's a junky, smelly mess and Elmhurst residents want it cleaned up.

"It's pretty nasty. It smells. In the summer, there's all kinds of animals going through the bags. It's just not pleasant at all," said Queens resident Terita Murphy. "I've called the city, the DEP, the buildings department. I have tried to contact the people who are listed as the owners of the building and I have never gotten any response from anyone."

And it seems, Murphy had reason to be afraid. After she called "NY1 For You", we contacted the Department of Health and inspectors were sent to the site where they told us among the garbage pile, they found rat feces and a dead dog.

Inspectors removed the carcass and the property owner was issued an order to clean up the mess within five business days. A spokesperson for the Health Department says the agency will follow up with a compliance inspection and if the violations are not corrected the agency will clean up the property.

Unreal.
Dead animals, rotting sewage and garbage--jeez
This is stuff you would find down in the Islands in the early 80's.

Especially West End of St.Croiz in the poor parts after Hugo.
The city really needs to put honest inspectors on duty and pay them with heavy mandatory fines from these slumlords.

$100-$500 Fines dont work !!

Looks like Evan & Toby's hideout!

The stench is guaranteed to be 100% and pure certified political corruption!

Either that or our "esteemed" state senator forgot to use her "bathroom tissue" again!

Well, in political circles it's been often said that one hand wipes the other!

"Evan, give me a hand here"!

Don't show this the Tierney and the mainline preservation community.

After the jaw-dropping video they did on the casita shacks of South Bronx (you should have seen their serious faces - you would think they just documented Grand Central) this would be a likely study for a student at Pratt, a page at Place Matters, and a calendared item on the LPC agenda.

Why of course, considering that the clubhouse has made the Queens image identical with the third world, the Brahmans that live in Landmark Designated Districts assume this is where their nanny lives, their gardener sleeps, and the maintenance man gets his training.

And HDC will do a Preservation Alert and Rev Billy will show up to campaign to save it.
