Coast is clear for Gennaro

From the Times Ledger:

Candidates have been dropping like flies in the race for the City Council’s 24th District seat, and it appears City Councilman James Gennaro (D−Fresh Meadows) will have no challengers in his bid for re−election this year.

Out of the three candidates who said they were going to run for the seat, two have confirmed they will not run against the two−term incumbent.

Gennaro, 52, voted against the term limits extension last fall, but he said he decided to run for a third time to continue his focus on environmental and economic issues in the district, which covers the communities of Fresh Meadows, Kew Gardens Hills, Briarwood, Electchester, Hillcrest and Jamaica Estates.

And here I thought it was to keep your name recognizable for when you run against Padavan again...

It's sad that the voters of the 24th District will not have a choice in the election because Gennaro will be running unopposed.

Shame on Dilip Nath for cavalierly expecting to win Gennaro's seat in 2013, as if it is a given.

As for Simanowitz, please, there are already enough "chiefs of staffs" running for offices around the city.

How about a candidate who is not a career politician?

Frank Padavan better enjoy the next 15 months of being a minority senator and getting his ass kicked on a daily basis. Cause come 2010, Padavan is history.

I seriously doubt that.

Right. Here is the history of Padavans races.

1) Morshed Alam has no money, no support of the party, no Obama, no one has ever heard of him, and he gets 42% of the vote.
2) Nora Marino has no money, no support of the party, no Obama, no one has ever heard of her, and she gets 41% of the vote.
3) Jim Genaro runs a funded campaign (no financial support from Senate Dems) and gets 49.9% of the vote.

2010: Padavan is the # 1 target in the state (ala Maltese and Trunzo) and has a $3 million dollar campaign against him allowing Democrats to pull their votes.

Yeah, okay, Padavan is gonna win. Sure.

Padavan looks like he has aged about 500 years. I saw him at a civic event in Bayside and the civic group that he used to give member items to introduced Genaro, and Padavan had a heart attack. The reality is if you live in this district, you have come to the conclusion that Padavan is a gobner. Evberyone is cozzying up to Genaro.

I am on the Board of a local environmental group and we voted to start building a relationship with genarro. What good is Padavan if he cant deliver money anymore ? The guy was always a prick bullying us to name this or that after him. He always treated us badly. We will be happy with a new Senator. Avella or Gennaro or Weprin are fine with us.

Yes but when Gennaro's REAL record comes out, people in the district will stick with Padavan.

And 6 in 10 votes still went to Frank even though the district is overwhelmingly Dem.
