Mets hike commuter parking rate

From 1010WINS:

Drivers who park in the commuter lot across the street from Citi Field often times find themselves paying game day prices -- even though they're parking hours before game time and not heading into the ballpark.

Baseball fans may be able to afford the high prices, but regular commuters are furious with the hikes at the Roosevelt Avenue lot.

"It's unbelievable...you just eliminated a commuter parking lot...this isn't promoting mass transit," a commuter tells 1010 WINS.

The parking rates are hiked on game days to $18 or the "event" rate; these hikes go into effect at 3 a.m. for day games and at 9:30 a.m. for night games. On "non-event" days the parking rate is $4.

On days when there is a sell-out crowd or for "big" games the "event" rate is in play all day.

It won't matter, the way the government and stingy employers are siphoning out every dime from our pockets, no one will have a car anyway.

I'll bet there are no limos using that lot.

Just cars driven by working stiffs who want to get on the subway.

Isn't using the subway what this lying Commissar claims to promote?

Be careful parking there anyway. Now the welfare folks want to take your car to give it to the poor. Charity, they say.

They should charge the commuter rate for that lot, period. It's a smaller available space anyway so, even thought some people are parking there in the morning and staying through the game, it's not like they can fit 2,000 cars in there...

There will still be plenty of people paying the $18.

And the lot closes one hour after the event!

"$18.00 Tax Included"

Just how does this "tax included" business work?

When you go to a Chinese restaurant or a McDonald's for take out food, they charge you sales tax. No? However, when you take out a slice of pizza, there's never any tax included. What gives here?

When you park for a Mets game, they give you a receipt showing the breakdown of costs including how much sales tax you paid?

Is anyone auditing these situations?

NY post story that the Mets will go back to charging $4 for the Commuter Lot, regardless of gameday or not.

However, up in the Bronx, the Yankees are going to charge $24 for commuters who park in the lot near the Metro-North station...

I'm from an office and we have been getting a lot of phone calls complaining about this same issue... I hope something is done about this. I have personally spoken to the people "in charge" of the parking lot but they no real answers to help the public who park there to use the subway...
