McMansion mess in Forest Hills

Dear Queens Crapper, Splitting Hairs and Forest Hills 72,

My name is Matches Malone. I have written to both the crapper and splitting hairs before about a serious and now dangerous issue that has been affecting homeowners in northern Forest Hills, Crapper see your post entitled Walls of Jericho.

The situation is gotten out of hand, however there is a major development. For months I've been complaining about the mcmansion that is constantly being added onto like a Lego playset. The "house" at 110-15 63rd Drive was being modded again however the DOB finally took someone's complaint and issued both a stop work order and ECB violation. It seems almost everything these homeowners, who are Bukarian Jewish immigrants, are illegal and off the books. More details can be found here...

The buck doesn't stop there. At a house located directly behind it, 110-14 63rd Road, is another mcmansion and guess what? It was also complained about during the summer. The DOB guys have also issued violations for that monstrosity however the damage is already done and neighbors have to put up with that eyesore. What's worse is that house causes flooding on 63rd Road and 110th street anytime, like today, it rains. They too are Bukarian Jewish immigrants and I believe related to the homeowners at 110-15 63rd Drive. More on that house's violations here...

Walk a couple of yards and you'll find another house of pain, 110-26 63rd Road. This place has been expanded so much that it doesn't have a front or back yard anymore. Apparently no one complained till this summer and, you guessed it, it finally got hit with a DOB violation for illegal conversion.

They are also Bukarian Jewish immigrants (I'm not racist at all but all of you I know read that NY Times piece in July and know that they have been making these homes without care for the neighborhood)

But wait there's more, and this one is the tipping point. A house located at 110-46 63rd Road is being complete demolished, and I mean the crane and gut kind. The poor homeowners have had to deal with the trucks etc. Well it seems last week someone complained and the whole thing was illegal. DOB violations galore and now the community has to deal with a half-demolished house.

As you can read, this is really a problem and something needs to be done. Four illegal conversions on one block and you'd think DOB would catch on. This needs to be known to the whole city and these homeowners should be investigated and possibly jailed for their illegal activities. It's bad enough that the neighbors have to put up with these ugly homes, and selfish people but to have these illegal things go on without stop is horrible.

I hope all of you can post something on this and stir action, because neighbors here, except those mysterious complainers, are afraid to speak up. The way these shady homeowners act, it's like they're an organized crime family, which may not be far from the truth.

I have enclosed pictures of 3 of the 4 houses mentioned. You can mention me, matches, in the blog and this message but do not mention my e-mail address.

Thank you for your help, and if you need anything more please feel free to e-mail me. Thanks again.

-Matches Malone

Forget it - it's a done deal, just as it is in Jamaica Estates, Fresh Meadows, and other places. Illegal? Definitely. Stop work orders given? Definitely. Will they be built anyway? Definitely. This Community of newcomers has the DOB in its pockets, and has had it there for many years. No C of O? No matter - it will be issued a few years down the line. No payment for the fines? No problem. They will just sit on the books unpaid. Hate to tell you this - they will prevail, while you rant and rave to the DOB, your politicians, the Media, et al.

Where's the US Attorney to investigate DOB?

Put some DOB commissioners and inspectors in jail if improvements are wanted.

DOB is finally "inspecting" everything because of all the scrutiny after those crane deaths. DOB commissioner LiMandri is trying to change things but it will take a long time. He is also reorganizing all of the borough commissioners. Good riddance Derek Lee!

These illegal Bukharian McMansions all belong to friends of Melinda Katz. Do you realize how much dough she has accumulated from these people?? She will not listen to the community or help stop this illegal activity. She even virtually handed over the Trylon theater to them for the so called "community center"--more like a synagogue. But wait til she runs for city Comptroller next year. We will give her a dose of her own medicine!

This is what you do.

Stop complaining to the choir.

Go after the preservation community and threaten them. Yes, the folks that live in Brooklyn Heights and the West Side and Greenwich Village.

Demand, no dont ask, demand that they get off their arses and start a citywide community preservation effort at public education and grassroots efforts not unlike the Parks Foundation and Transportation Alternatives.

Demand that they go after places like Pratt and NYU and Hunter that are the intellectural whores who churn out prodevelopment study after prodevelopment study under the guise of research.

Contatct Historic Districts Council, the Muni Art Society, the Landmarks Conservency.

Demand that they DO SOMETHING or join the growing chorus that any limitations, be it spot zoning or landmark designation be overturned.

Only when we are all in the same boat will the people with the resources to do something start bailing.

Is Melinda Katz Bukharian?

Anonymous said...

This section of Forest Hills is in James Gennaro's district.

Anonymous said...

Melinda Katz is Idiot-kharian...

Anonymous said...

Didn't Tony Avella say something about creating a historical district for the area?

Also, Matches mentioned something about these guys being suspicious. I wonder if the NYPD has been investigating these homeowners.

Shame. The rest of the world is getting poorer with the economy and these homeowners seem to find ways to spend like pigs.

just curious.

where do these bukabarbarians get the $$$ for all this tacky shit?

Anonymous said...

I was looking over those DOB filings links for the houses and it's really disgusting that were posted on the blog.

The one listed 110-15 63rd Drive cost, at least $50,000 and the 110-46 63rd Road costs at least $120,000!!!!

What's wrong with these selfish people? Is anyone going to do anything to stop these illegal constructions?!

Things are not the same in Forest Hills since Dave and Debbie left Community Affairs.

ok, now you have speculated on Katz and the Buklarins, and talked about the nature of Bukarins, how to find Bukarins, etc etc etc do you now feel like something has been accomplished?

Lab Tec: We have found the pathogen, sir! We know how you get it and how it works and what you look like when you have it.

Doctor: Great, now how do we cure the patient?

Lab Tec: Oh, we did't look at that part, sir.

Cut their sewer and water services that will be a good start. They are already using more than their fair share of both. By the way, this link is an interesting read. I haven’t heard much talk about it yet, but it’s coming. Think it’s going to continue to come without a price? Join the rest of the world.

Snake very true however I'm sure that residents have constantly complained about the issue. That Times piece looked like it came after complaints and Katz, in the article, said her office is looking into it.

I think the thing Matches Malone is point out in his letter is the fact that there are so many ILLEGAL mcmansions popping up there and that should give the government more push to do something.

Oh my God some one built a Mansion, there goes the neighborhood. You know 1st there is million dollar mansions and then next crime & drugs. Run for your lives there are mansions everywhere.

Anonymous said...

Since when did building mansions harm a neighborhood? They should be given thanks for raising everyone's property values.

Anonymous said...

These things are eyesores. They do not raise people's property values. Paving over your front lawn devalues property. When will these people learn?

"Since when did building mansions harm a neighborhood? They should be given thanks for raising everyone's property values."

Very soon, these homes will not be able to sell. No one will want to or be able to fork over the money that the sellers of these McMansions would want. That's the difference. These homes are McMansions.

Mansions on a huge property are amazing. McMansions on a small lot look like sh#@. Period.

These buildings, poorly built, will soon start to show their age.

Then, like brownstones in mid-twentieth century, they will be subdivided into to a warren of rooms.

Anonymous said...

your point is irrelevant, if they cant sell it they stay in it or sell it for less what do you care. Mcmansions look like shit? Crack dens look like shit, housing projects look like shit, section 8 houses look like shit. Mcmansions are fine. Do you see mcmansions in bushwick? do you see mcmansions in howard beach, whiteston & middle village? yes, see a trend.

Anonymous said...

McMansions on McMansion-sized lots are one thing. These violate NYC zoning by building into the required side and rear yards. They are ILLEGAL.

Anonymous said...

Look out, Matches Malone. They will triangulate the photos taken from that window and make you disappear!

The folks who live in homes like these are basically the new mobsters, only they are much less charasmatic and discreet. In two generations, their spoiled children will have forgotten how to run the many scams involving goverment agencies and insurance companies which currently keep them afloat, and these homes will have 'For Sale' signs out front.

These nouveau riche sheepherders and goat f-----s straight from the Russian steppes are as low class as they come...tasteless barbarians who probably acquired their riches nefariously!

Whatever the expanse and appointment of their newly built castles...you can't put lipstick on pigs and call them cultured.

A lot are in the high end jewelry business where fences for blood diamonds abound.

Anonymous said...

The steppe plains are in mongolia not russia, get a life hater.

Anonymous said...

These McMansions are ugly... plain and simple. These go against the character of the neighborhood. Not to mention are probably exorbently inefficient. Trust me these will not stand the test of time.

Anonymous said...

"your point is irrelevant, if they cant sell it they stay in it or sell it for less what do you care. Mcmansions look like shit?"

You're irrelevant because you have no taste if you think McMansions are "fine".

Anonymous said...

The main issue of the letter was that these houses were modified illegally, regardless of taste of the homeowner/neighborhood.

Anonymous said...

thats all you say they look like shit fine, your entitled to your opinion. but respect someones elses when they dont think they are ugly. I bought a house in mv 4 years ago because it is a vibrant neighborhood. And when I see some mcmansions going up on penelope ave & on other streets I see people who are investing in the neighborhood & intend to stay. and (if) it is being done illegaly it s/b shut down.

Anonymous said...

But see, that's just it. People DON'T stay. In my neighborhood, McMansions are going up everywhere. They spend all this time and money building them, stay there for 3 or 4 years and sell. What's up with that? These McMansions will be a tough sell pretty soon with the banks and people's wallets in trouble.

Anonymous said...

Italian Girl has a very good point. The banks and mortgage companies are already in trouble with the subprime mess, which is largely affecting Queens homes.

I'm no mortgage expert but I don't think it will bode well hen these guys take out the loans to do the illegal modifications to their homes.

What's worse, as we've seen with the economy these days, when the banks and mortgage companies start to fold over bad investments, everyone suffers.

The official boundaries between the Mongolian dominated steppes and Russia (going back to the days of Genghis Khan and later Kublai Khan) were loosely drawn.

Get a few history lessons you
ignorant barbarian!

And be sure to heck out some of those cute little sheep pictured on
"My Space".

Being very affectionate,
they make wonderful dates.

Your head is loosely drawn.
The steppes are in mongolia period. and the point is your a racist pig period. what glorius nationality do you belong to? you slob.

many scams involving goverment agencies and insurance companies.
---------------------
Yep...they are huge on auto insurance scams.
The "gang members" box you in on the GCP or Queens Blvd then hit the brakes on the car in front of you.
Many are doctors and lawyers "family" strictly devoted to insurance fraud.
This was big with the Russian mob in Coney Island a wile back.

Its festered and up 500% in Eastern Queens.

I have a NYC PO friend "on the job" in Rego Park.
When he goes on call for these staged accident investigations EVERBODY involved ALWAYS has a licence, full insurance on a crappy car.
Its Always Russian & Estonian names except for some victims.

"Glorius" is properly spelled g-l-o-r-i-o-u-s..."glorious"...
in the English language, something which you obviously suffer a deficiency in
(along with some others) no doubt.

Anonymous said...

So our "intelligent" peasant thumbed through a history book between posts..."mongolian period" (though it should have been a with a cap"M").

Bravo!

Now you're learning a little more than you knew before!

I'm also impressed
with your social demeanor...
colorful use of American colloquial
idioms (i.e. "slob" etc.)!

You'll get your English usage right one of these days.

As that TV sit-com character
"Balki" once said:

"They foul our wells
and date our chickens".

Who was he talking about?

Anonymous said...

If you want another example, you should all check out the 2 gaudy monstrosities on Kew Forest Ave. in Forest Hills! (between Queens Blvd. and Austin Street). One even has 3 minivans worth of Jewish immigrants behind (literally) an automatic wall! Awful, just awful.

why?
