The fix is in (again)

City Councilman Tony Avella (D-Bayside), meanwhile, said it’s clear to him that the fix is in, as Bloomberg and Council Speaker Christine Quinn (D-Manhattan) have started to lean hard on members of the legislative body, and from his perspective it appears to be working.

Bloomberg leans on Council, steps back on blight

“There’s no doubting it, the full-court press is on now,” said one City Council member who met with the mayor.

Avella, whose chief of staff attended the meeting for him, said the conversation among his colleagues has shifted in recent days from the controversy surrounding the project to “how do we circumvent the process to create as little opposition as possible.”

He blames this on the political weight of Bloomberg and Quinn.

“This is how they operate, the two of them. Since they’ve been operating in concert on so many things, for a lot of people there’s no breathing room. They just start pressuring people,” Avella said. “The mayor wouldn’t have started the ULURP clock [on Willets Point] if he didn’t know Quinn would have backed him up and gotten the votes he needs.”

God bless Tony Avella for telling it like it is. These council people are pigs and Christine Quinn is the queen sow. Expect there to be some bullshit amendment and for Como to vote no on both.

So they don't do what Avella wants, it's a big conspiracy? Please spare me. Maybe the pressure is on because this is tremendous public support for this project.

HA HA HA tremendous public support my ass. That's why McShane couldn't get a rally going? Please spare me. This is tweeding at its worst.

I'm sorry, but Claire and her tweeder friends do not represent the interests of the public on this. 85% of the public is against the government taking private land to give to a private developer.

Thanks for making up a number. What percentage of the people are for cleaning up the disgusting mess at Willets Point and building something nice there? I would guess that number is pretty high.

Members of the public who have studied the proposal are opposed to it, because first and foremost it would be an inappropriate use of a site that is ideally suited to industrial business, hemmed in as it is by highway infrastructure and positioned as it is beneath the runway landing approach; and because the proposed development will inflict severe unmitigatable traffic congestion upon all surrounding neighborhoods as well as the commuting public. The CPC's own report admits that the traffic to be created will be excessive and unmitigatable. The expert traffic consultant who testified at the CPC hearing stated that the unmitigatable traffic to be generated by this proposed development is the worst that he has encountered in 40 years of his practice.

Add to that the loss of maufacturing space and the destruction of exisitng successful businesses, and it's no wonder that "support" is thin.

So there are many valid reasons to kill this proposal that don't even have anything to do with the percentage of affordable housing or the use of eminent domain.

this whole plan is bs the edc at the last second thinks that because the announce deals every time there is a hearing that the can hide from the truth . the truth is the city does not own 40% it ownes 20% of private land and even if they make 9 more deals and are at 40% does that mean 60% will get condemned ? and why has the other 60% have deals? the city dose not have the $$$ for the project they are telling people they can't get paid till the next budget gets voted on next july . hows that for hiding the truth? yes we only need 200 million to buy these people but were out of $$$ already and have to wait till next july to pay you , but what if the budget does not get passed? well just take it anyway and let them join the 60% of the other people we screwed and gave contaminated land to . you all need to wake up ans see what a bunch of peices of shit these edc and city officals are

The silence by the city's elite and media is disgusting.

Overturning the landmarks law just to wake them up would be worth it.

Well...Bush boy Mc Cain was just dumped from his bid for the white House.

Now let's see if NYC's voters will do the same for the other "B" boy... bastard Bloomberg in his shoddy attempt to remain in City Hall!

Hope springs eternal in our quickly changing political times.

There's only Wilpon's and Musss' etc. support for this project!

I don't hear any public outcry for developing Willets Point as a high priority Evan.

If you insist on support,
try a jock strap for your little nuts!
