Check's in the mail

MAYOR BLOOMBERG AND FINANCE COMMISSIONER STARK ANNOUNCE 2007 $400 PROPERTY TAX REBATE CHECKS ARE IN THE MAIL

This year’s checks remind owners that they are only to cash the check if their home is their primary residence. If not, they are instructed to return the check, which will also help the Department of Finance to keep its records updated.

"We can't verify if you live there or not, so we'll just assume you do. But please be honest and mail it back if you don't because our system is screwed up." Ah, it's great when the city admits its own incompetence.

Bloomie dangles the check for another time and all the dogs (i.e. homeowners) wag their tails and saliva.

Why not UP-FRONT lower the tax bills by 400 bux?

[This reminds me of all the morons who can't wait to get their IRS refund each year not knowing that it's better not to get the refund and not having to "lend" the gov't your $$$. And it's even better to have to OWE the gov't $$$ since you've got the dough all along.)

Comptroller Bill Thompson
ought to put together a set of figures
on just how much uncollected revenue
(water & sewer taxes etc.)
that's floating around out there.....
which NYC doesn't seem to care much about
or is in much of a hurry to add to its coffers.

Why should they?
If they need some more quick and easy $$$$$$$$......
they can just raise our taxes!

The LORD MAYOR
has just giveth me a hefty real estate tax increase....
then he giveth me back a measly tax refund.

Praise be to the LORD MAYOR.

Id love to shove my check up his ass
(if I could afford that gesture)
but I was nervously waiting for it
so I could apply it to paying
the quarterly portion of my bill!
