Bloomberg backing Vallone for BP

Mayor Michael Bloomberg will honor Peter Vallone Jr. (D-Astoria) in a fund-raiser at his Manhattan townhouse as the councilman prepares for a likely campaign for the 2009 Queens borough president race.

Mayor to host Vallone fund-raiser

Hizzoner will host the event for Vallone and an estimated 50 other friends and elected officials on Nov. 5 at his Upper East Side home, Vallone said. The councilman, who has hinted that he will run for Queens borough president in two years but has not yet made an official announcement, said the cost to attend the event would likely be $2,000 per person and that he hopes to raise as much as $100,000.

Vallone said he would probably run on three issues - public safety, the environment and schools.

Excellent. He completely ignores overdevelopment as one of the root causes of these issues. The machine has chosen a good candidate.

I hope hizzoner will present
scumbag/sellout Don Vallone Sr.
with a new toupee to accompany his support!

He's starting to look like a dirty old man
who cruises altar boys at Sunday mass!

Its up to the public to transform these issues from schools and public safety and the like as secondary issues arising from overdevelopment.

But considering the people in Astoria are so passive, relying on the politicians to tell them what to think and say (or just saying nothing if they disagree) he will undoubtedly get away with it.

There is some good news. Remember how Bricklayer Onorato fell flat on his face in Sunnyside?

The problem for politicians in that part of Queens is fortunately when they escape the confines of their little enclave, they encounter thinking educated people.

They get nowhere.

We get so few opportunities to commnet publicly. This puts a cloud over our effort.

Please, curb yourself.

No this is great. When he runs for office the public can grill him about how overdevelopment is destroying his community.

Let him answer your questions publicly and see him squirm.

While you are at it, ask him how one of the last working class communities are being transformed into an Elmhurst before our horrified eyes.

Steinway Street becomes Roosevelt Avenue.

And while the city is getting revitalized since the 90s, the words 'urban deterioration' is on everyone's lips in Astoria.

But they won't ask questions, particularly in Astoria. They accept whatever is thrown their way. Just look at their voting record, for City Council alone. That is, for those who bother to vote at all.

Revised lyrics to "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets" (from Damn Yankees)

Whatever Bloomie wants
Bloomie gets
And little man, little Bloomie wants you
Recline yourself, resign yourself, you're through
I always get what I aim for
And your heart 'n soul is what I came for

Whatever Bloomie wants
Bloomie gets
Take off your coat
Don't you know you can't win?
You're no exception to the rule,
I'm irresistible, you fool, give in!...Give in!...Give in!

Hello, Pete
It's me
He hits so far
-hold on-that's you
Aaah-haaaaaa
Poo poo pa doop
Peek-a-boo
Yoo-hoo

I always get what I aim for
And your heart 'n soul is what I came for
...Bloomie wants
...Bloomie gets
You'll never win
I'm irresistible, you fool,
Give in...Give in...Give in.

Vallone represents (and is one of the architects of) Community Board 1, the community board from hell.

His brother is on it, for Christ sake.

Nice to make that the template for the entire borough of Queens.

Nice work, boys!
