You can thank Crappy and George for this - the local community has done squat.

Well, we ARE the local community. The politicians are the ones who haven't done squat.

Well it's repaired but it looks awful. It reminds me of all those boarded up entrances to tenements in the 80's

It also looks like the steinway folks are trying to hide a body.

No one can ever repair the loss of the front yard.
End of story. End of the mansion's prospect.
To be continued with further destruction of our other Queens landmarks.
Do I sound cynical?
No! Just an experienced realist. I leave the pie in the sky hope to the borough's various historical not for profit groups.
Good luck, America!

The scotch tape and glue will wear off soon.

Really, what part of Astoria Crappy are you and George from? You a member of Friends of Steinway Mansion because outside of that group, there is precious little of local interest.

And there lies the problem...

LOL! Yeah, they should have used duct tape and chewing gum.

Not scotch tape: duct tape, the repair material of the gods... I suspect the new shingles will (sort of) merge with the existing as they age.

"The scotch tape and glue will wear off soon"

that's why they should've used duct tape, that fixes everything. it even works when placed over the mouth of the blowhard politicos. give it a try sometime.

the repairs don't look great because you can't buy pre-weathered real cedar shingles.
-somethingstructural

Yeah if you try to put proper nail in a dried weathered shingle it will split like glass. That old water tank coopala window is still salvageable. It should be stripped, its rotted section's cleaned up and filled with 2 part epoxy putty, sculpted, sanded, sealed and painted in a marine grade epoxy STAT before its to late.
It will cost a fortune to fabricate a new one properly and harm historic value,
It the copper water tank still intact ?

Someone is getting after those guys.

Something is in the works.

BTW the copper tank is long gone.

and Costa is through. All over but the shouting.

Loria. Lucchese. We're watching. We'll always be watching. Through heat of summer and snow of winter. We'll be there.

Thanks George and your always observant team for alerting the public and the landmarked mansion owners to the deteriorating conditions witnessed there at times. And that done all the while pro bono. Hopefully they are thanking you in your vigilance protecting their property.
