Joe Conley is retiring from CB2

From Sunnyside Post:

Joe Conley, the long-serving Community Board 2 chair, is stepping down.

Multiple sources said that Conley, who has been chair for over 25 years, will be making the announcement tonight when Community Board 2 has its full monthly meeting.

Conley’s departure from the community board will result in the biggest shake up the board has seen in nearly 30 years. For the past decade, the same leadership structure has been in place: Conley as chairman; Steve Cooper, first vice chairman; Patrick O’Brien, second vice chairman; Lisa Deller, secretary, and Diane Ballek, treasurer.

The new chair will take the helm at a time when there are many ongoing issues. There is the ongoing debate about backyard seating in Long Island City, the construction of affordable housing, continued development and the possible construction over the Sunnyside Yards.

A community board chair should only be allowed to serve 5 years. There should be a term limit in place to avoid many of these boards from becoming self serving and complacent. 30 years??!! No way!

"Multiple sources said that Conley, who has been chair for over 25 years..."
25 years is way too long. There should be term limits for all Community Board members, to allow other citizens the opportunity to serve.

Joe Conley has been serving his own ambitions for the past 25 years. This shady wannabe councilman was a partner in crime with Jimmy Van Bramer in the destruction of 5 Pointz. We know that back door politics Van Bramer got about $10,500 in campaign donations from the Wolkoff family to vote for the mega project that will replace 5 Pointz. We wonder what perks Joe Conley received. Good riddance to bad trash.

Time to dump another son of the sod...Gene Kelty of CB7.

The article didn't mention that Conley stepped down for a period in 2003 after he had a falling out with Eric Gioia, and Helen Marshall (borough president then) asked him to resign. Conley went on hiatus for a year, then was re-elected.

That community board will move down to LIC soon and Sunnyside will be an 'also' as a special 'thank you' for ignoring the plight of their displaced neighbors in LIC & Dutch Kills..

Conley runs his board like an old frustrated parochial nun. "Speak outta tun me lads and it's a ruler across yer knuckles". I' surprised he doesn' wear a habit to the borough board meetings.

A good friend to the slumlords of Woodside , made it Christmas every day for those who menaced tenants who complained to the city about no heat and bad conditions.
turned a blind eye to the police strongmen for the slumlords.
got the sham organization Woodside on the Move lotsa dough. What a pal.
high time he's history.
