Williamsburg diner is likely toast

From Brownstoner:

New building applications were filed today for a six-story building with stores and 10 apartments at 225 Wythe Avenue, where a 1950s metal diner currently stands. It was home to the Wythe Diner from ’68 to ’88, Relish from ’97 to 2010, and currently houses Soho Mexican joint La Esquina.

1,238 square feet apartments are huge now? Enjoy your shitbox with five families crammed inside.

Funny, the hipsters didn't come to Williamsburg for six story, butt ugly human warehouses, they went there for the authentic, gritty urban vibe that places like this diner were a part of. Now that they have helped gentrify the nileighborhood and allowed the landlords to drive the rents sky high, they too will be driven out of the area for the foreign rich who now want to invest in the neighborhood and transform it into an endless sea of high rise glass monstrosities claiming to be "luxury apartments". The starving artists and hipsters are nothing more than useful idiots for developers and realtors.

What a pity - too bad it wasn't landmarked.

NYC has become so boring and predictable - everything interesting get destroyed.

You have to travel to see anything that's authentic anymore. And even then - most of America has become strip malls filled with chain stores.

We've become a city of Dollar stores, check cashing places and dialysis centers.

Add to that their pathological food fetish and joy at riding a bike and taking a ferry to work in mid-winter because the developers/politicians suggested it was cool, as well as desire not to exercise their pathetic limp minds in the dirty business of politics...

and you got a group that pretty much deserves to be treated like crap.

They will leave a shit legacy to their kids who will spit at them when they, in turn, become geazers. Any real change in about 40 years away when their kids start to take over.
