DeBlasio has illegal fence installed at Gracie Mansion

From the NY Post:

Mayor de Blasio failed to secure the proper permits to build his “privacy fence” around Gracie Mansion — and the Parks Department is now scrambling to file the paperwork after the fact, City Hall officials admitted Friday.

On Thursday, The Post exclusively reported that the mayor ordered the construction of a roughly 10-foot-tall fence inside an existing 6-foot brick wall to keep the public’s prying eyes out of his yard.

Officials couldn’t say whether any employees of the Parks Department, which handled the construction for the mayor, would be disciplined for building the barrier without first obtaining the alteration permits they needed.

City property owners are routinely levied hefty fines for such infractions.

Plans for the eyesore fence should have gone before the city’s Design Commission for review — but never did, a City Hall source also admitted. The job was finished in November.

Isn't the max height allowed 6ft? Even if they "pull permits"?

That's terrible, he doesn't own that house.

We expect people to follow laws and codes the Mayor can't even do it.

SHAME ON HIM!!!!

and the fence looks stupid.

If the mayor doesn't follow the rules & regulations .
don't expect from the public to do it.
He should be a good sample for a public, but he is not.
that's what we have corruption .

SHAME ON YOU.

Typical limousine liberal, the rules are for the "swine", not for them. This is the same attitude that outlaws guns as long as they can be surrounded with armed security.

Isn't Gracie Mansion Landmarked, too?

That was going to be my question. Even with a construction permit, how are you just allowed to alter the property like that for a historic site?

If he is so afraid of his constituents looking at him why didn't he just stay in Brooklyn?

At least Mayor Bloomberg said it up front that he didn't want to live in Gracie Mansion for that reason.

It seems our new mayor is of the ilk that he is above the law. But we shouldn't chastise him -- after all congress and the rest of the government act the same way. He's just following suit.

This isn't the first time he has shown us he will do as he pleases, the law be damned.

He and his wife are, in effect, saying: "Let them eat cake." We can be sure that there will be more bad acting ahead.

This arrogant attitude seems to be par for the course. Politicians profess and promise to give us transparency when they actually give us nothing nice to say about them.

It is shameful. He should be setting an example for ALL New York citizens. He has already failed miserably.

I heard at a civic meeting a DOB employee say that a fence can be up to 4 feet in the front of a house and 6 feet in rear and side?

Now Dante 👊 can play in the sand box and the evil cops can't hurt him.

He's the mayor. He can do whatever he wants to do and no one can do anything about it. Maybe Reverend Al wanted the fence, so no one can see what he's up to. So much for transparency.

I found this in Wikipedia, about Gracie Mansion being landmark. Click on the link:

The same way that the NYPD turned the area around Police Plaza into a fortress and Rudy Giuliani closed the City Hall steps to the public based on security reasons, NYPD will argue that the mayor's security is more important than the historical appearance of Gracie Mansion's wall.

Not only is it an offical city landmark, it is also on the National Register of Historic Places.

A few years back, when my neighbors constructed a deck that overlooked my back yard, I wanted to put up a 10ft fence so we could have some privacy. The fence company told us they couldn't, by law, put up a 10ft fence in NYC because the maximum allowed height is 6ft.

4 feet in front, 6 feet in back, according to this. I assume they did their homework.

Looks like a cheap Home Depot plastic piece of shit. Be comforted with this thought. Der Wilhelm is strictly a one term mayor.

If bitchy Chrissy Quinn hadn't run Di Blasio would never be mayor. Everybody voted against Quinn and look at the mutt we got to run NYC.

This is an affront to the citizens of New York City; a blatant disregard for rules that everyone else is made to follow. He has taught everyone that might makes right! Shame!

Actually, that's only for R1 through R5 zones. Gracie Mansion is located in an R10A zone, so those restrictions don't apply.

Additionally, while Gracie Mansion is landmarked and located within a public park and therefore should go through LPC, Parks Department and the Art Commission, all of these bodies are essentially rubber-stamp agencies when it comes to work being done for A) anything public and B) the Mayor in particular.

this could be the nadir of mayor big slow's blatant defiant hypocrisy.but like someone else wrote here,he is only following post 9/11 and celebrity stalker and paparazzi protocol with excessive security measures.

it don't make it right, especially that this big dumb creep, his stupid delusional entitled wife and hipster kids wanted to make this a better inclusive city for everyone.instead it's gotten worse, especially for blacks.are there still eric garner protest going on?

remember this when the blaz runs again.he let bratton continue his draconian outdated broken windows method of policing.that death was his(the mayors)fault.
