From the Daily News:REP. Anthony Weiner wants Queens beachgoers to know they have more to worry about this summer than just UV rays.
Weiner (D-Brooklyn,Queens) rolled up his pants and trekked barefoot down Rockaway Beach last week to draw attention to riptides, the deadly currents that killed six beachgoers there last year, and claimed four lives off Long Island this season.
The congressman promised to introduce a bill as early as this week that would fund additional lifeguard training across the country, with particular emphasis on saving swimmers from the deadly currents, which kill about 100 people nationwide each year.
"Riptides are treadmills for swimmers," Weiner said. "You can be a big husky guy like me, and it's still going to take you."
Too bad he didn't do a demonstration of this for us...

He's the ultimate busybody - he has to find the stupidest issues that are the least of our worries, and attach his name to it, like it's a matter of life and death.

riptides? need more surf beaches there. If you dont know how to swim, do not go in the water, we dont need more lifeguards blowing whistles on people swimming and enjoying the ocean, it is still free. Meanwhile waiting for his office to release the testing data on the sand they dredged and pumped on the shore, is it safe Weiner, we asked months ago and you promised it....
