From Fanhouse:
The owners of the New York Mets have begun discussions with a leading real estate firm to strategize for a potential arena in Queens that would house the NHL's New York Islanders, an industry source has told FanHouse.
Jones Lang LaSalle, the project management company for the upcoming $775-850 million renovation of Madison Square Garden, has begun work on a feasibility study for an Islanders arena at Willets Point -- the property surrounding Citi Field, the second-year home of the Mets.
"This is beyond the preliminary stage," said the source. "You don't bring in a big hitter like JLL unless you're serious. This tells me the Islanders and Mets have made progress in a partnership to take the hockey team to Queens. If Charles Wang and Nassau can't cut a deal, this will be a great option."
Maybe the Queens Historical Society can include this in their Queens sports exhibit...

I am not sure where an "Islander facility would be placed without harming existing buinesses. I can tell you getting to the Nassau Coliseum or the Coliseum itself is the pits as is anything on Long Island can be. So if Wang decides to move here in NYC so be it - perhaps the new Brooklyn arena would be the best bet!
Great! Now we will be flooded with Canadian immigrants!
Queens would appreciate them more than the politicians of LI are. It's a shame. They should move the Nets and Islanders in the same arena in Coney Island. Remember the days when sports teams would actually SHARE a facility. Imagine that...
Why must this city throw away money on subsidizing worthless sports instead of doing something that benefits all of us like taking back control of our transit system from the state.
Now we will be flooded with Canadian immigrants!
Not that there's anything wrong with that, eh?
As long as the taxpayers don't have to pay for it,sure why not? LGA is right there, so are the hotels that they stay in. You have access via LIRR,7 line and GCP,LIE and the Van Wyck.
You would have bigger crowds for sure.
And then LI will regret or be in denial about the decision not to have Wang's Lighthouse project once Queens is raking in revenues from more business -> taxes.
Now we will be flooded with Canadian immigrants!
Why not.. it will make queens more 'white' again.. balance out the asians, latinos, and blacks. LOL.
Send them to Brooklyn.
