Firehouses spared from budget axe

From Gotham Gazette:

We just got this from Councilmember Elizabeth Crowley’s office:

“Our top priority is to keep New Yorkers safe and by finding the money to save firehouses, we succeeded today,” said City Council Fire & Criminal Justice Chair Elizabeth Crowley. “When we started this fight, 62 fire companies were on the chopping block - now all will remain open. The City has negotiated a budget that will restore the $37 million to keep our fire companies open. Thanks to the efforts of firefighters, elected officials, community leaders and thousands of New Yorkers from every borough, we won this fight for our fire protection.”

where's the money coming from?

fact is, the money was always there.
As the current administration in DC is demonstrating every day, never waste a crisis. Even if the crisis is caused by the same people that "solve" it.
This is just another example.
We need to bring back tar and feathering.

Wonderful. Now can we get some more cops in the city? If not, then how about putting the firemen out on patrol during their down time.

Where its should come from the vastly over bloated pensions they get ...none should get a retirement check before at least 65

Unless they prove every year they are really retired and have no wages from a job.

We don't need more cops to do nothing,
we need the guys on the street now to do their jobs. Sitting in RMP's all day with the A/C running isn't the job they were hired for

You got to admit Lizzy Crowley is fighting for firehouses to remain open - this is what we need - a POL who is actually and advocate for us. I hope she doesn't become like her big shot cousin the Congressman who is non-existent and now under investigation. Good luck Lizzy, keep up the good work! You also look very foxy these days!
