Why I live in America...

This title may sound strange, but it’s actually not just a way to attract readers to the topic because I really do mean what it indicates.

There must be violence against women

I hope my message is clear, since it’s really quite relevant to the future of our societies, which must be protected from any kind of cultural invasion.

Shouldn't we be culturally sensitive though and allow the beating of women for certain groups?

How will the most diverse county in the nation handle this when it comes here?

Anyone remember the 1950s Italian movie
"Divorce Italian Style"
starring Marcello Mastroianni) ?

It makes a comedic statement
about some serious old Sicilian values.

In this instance the humorous subject is
the murder of a wife who has put the "horns" (cheated) on her husband
as an appropriate alternative to divorce.

Of course, in this case,
the husband also wishes to take up
with a new woman
and must dispose of his spouse
through a crime of passion
(unofficially "condoned" at the time).

We've just reached the year 2008
in the USA.....where we have legal statutes
that DO NOT permit the enforcement
of any archaic religious or tribal law
that run counter to the laws of our land.

We don't stone to death female whores....
as the ancient Hebrews supposedly did
as recorded in ancient texts.

Primitive interpretations
of the Kuran (Q'run....Koran?) Bible, etc.
by primitive peoples
regarding dealing out corporal or capital
punishment is not to be tolerated.

It's ILLEGAL.

When you arrive in America
leave your OLD LAWS AT HOME!

The problem with some folks is....
they love the new freedom that America offers ....
but want retain their own "freedom"
to violate U.S. Law....
at their discretion and convenience!

There is ONE captain of a vessel
and only ONE law of the land!

Break it and you'll get a chance
to experience another aspect of democracy....
joining prison's general population
where all inmates are equal!

First, the problem is the society that created this is getting exposed to the fresh air of the real world. Think back in history. Slavery in America. Serfdom in Europe. Capital punishment.

The dynamics of the modern world will tear apart these backward practices.

Except .... except ...

the CLUBHOUSE will protect anyone that will provide it funds (called campaign contributions) and support (called votes.)

So Asian money can pour into Flushing, Isreali money into St Saviours, Russian money everywhere, and soon we become a MULTICULTURAL society.

Anything goes!!!!

Oh, Crappy, how can you complain? The preservation community doesn't discuss these things.

Around the whine and cheeze we politely and quietly talk about the mayor, the commissioner, or the governor.

But never, never, never immigrant groups. They just don't exist.

Go to any preservation function and you will know what I mean.

Yeah, lets bar other cultures from coming in - like the Irish and the Poles.
- Mickey O'Zakiewicz

Anonymous said...

Nobody is suggesting "barring" anyone from anywhere.

BUT....when you swear the oath of allegiance....
in becoming a US citizen.....
you agree to UPHOLDING ITS LAWS !

These DO NOT INCLUDE
adding to it..... your own pre-medieval practices!

Any "culture" that promotes beatings
is simply UNDER-CIVILIZED and has no place
in modern civilized society!

In China, for example,
they still leave newborn female infants out to die because they're not as highly valued as males!

If you insist on living by
a perverted interpretation of Islamic law
then stay at home!

The thing I like is when we go to THEIR societies, we have to follow THEIR rules, but when they come to OUR society we have to follow THEIR rules.

Let us remember before we go on with blind patriotic ramblings regarding "law of the land," ... the "law of the land" began with the mass socio-cultural extermination (planned of course) by Anglos against the "Native Americans" on this land - before the arrival of your "law of the land."

also,

"Break it and you'll get a chance
to experience another aspect of democracy....
joining prison's general population
where all inmates are equal!"

Sorry but having over 2 million African Americans in the industrial jail complex based on the "criminal act" of having a penny sized amount of crack (while the real deviants are the on WALL STREET) does not amount to democracy. Capitalism is not democracy my friends.

Do no be so quick to claim such "laws of the land" as they were introduced via genocide.

And Yemen is supposed to be one of our allies in the war on terrorism. If this is the opinion of the nation's English-language newspaper, imagine what one of its Arabic papers would say on this topic.

Anonymous said...

So, Sal, you think women should be beaten? If not, then what the hell is your point?

---------

Sal hang it up. 90% of the native americans will killed by European disease. Tragic? You bet.

90% of the whites that went to the the Carribean (Barbados and Boston were about the same size in 1680) were killed by tropical disease.

Tragic? Well, no one cares. So who is the disposable population forgotten because they are unfashionable to remember?

eh?

I thought the sentiments looked familiar.

Will Gallagher continue to believe in violence against women when (s)he is the block wife?

What protocol is followed if Gallagher meets Francis Crowley? Who make first move? Since Crowley's relative is a US Congressman, does he get to claim seniority over Pinky and choose to be pitcher or catcher?

Anonymous said...

Maybe it's just me but I don't think the article is that bad. I think the author has a clear, well thought out point. If only my councilman had thought to bring his conquest to Yemen instead of his office he wouldn't be in such a bind and I would still feel like I had a friend who was important.

The Anglos brought civilization to the SAVAGES.

From the Declaration of Independence:

"The history of the present king of Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations...He has...endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers the MERCILESS INDIAN SAVAGES, WHOSE KNOWN RULE OF WARFARE IS AN UNDISTINGUISHED DESTRUCTION OF ALL AGES, SEXES, AND CONDITIONS."

My friend your right, capitalism is not democracy. But in a sane democracy, laws such as having a penny sized amount of crack or laws against beating your spouse are to protect and prevent the potential victims from the serious multiple consenqueces that both can bring to victims, families and the general public who pay taxes to deal with the aftermath.

A sane society prevents destruction of it's citizens and laws is created for the people and by the people to protect themselfs from crackheads banging a pipe over your head to rob you or the cretin whom hurts, maims, or kills a physically weaker spouse.

Don't agree crackhead? Move out of the USA, go live in Yeman, Liberia, Nigeria or Sudan instead - you'll feel right at home fool.

ahhhh people, taking it out of context

"So, Sal, you think women should be beaten? If not, then what the hell is your point?"

I am not saying that, what I am getting to you is this "American culture" ... how did it "get here?"

I told you how.. imperialist domination

"ahhh, Islam. the peaceful tolerant religion. you must be f***ing kidding me."

as tolerant as the European crusades and the Spanish Inquisition (where Jews and Muslims lived side by side by the way)

The very fact that (george is it?) claims that Native Americans were "savages" seems quite infantile. You want to discuss savagery? How do you feel about slavery? Do you know that almost (if not all) the white property owners (signers) of the dec. of indep. were slave holders? They were the savages my friend.

now where did I say I agreed with the beating of a woman. FOOL. I am making a distinction between the crimes on WALL STREET and petty crimes. Sorry but the taxes that you pay paid the for the CIAs involvement during Noriega's (Panama)/ crack epidemic in the 80's. The crack came from some where correct? The U.S. govt opend the flood gates so that crack could invade poor areas of NYC (and other urban locations) (blacks and Latino) - do you think that people wake up in the morning and decide to sell crack? There are economic issues here. I rather my taxes go towards rehabilitation vs 25 years in jail for 3 grams of crack my friend.Think about it.. rehabilitation is far cheaper vs clothing, housing, feeding, etc some1 in jail facing 25 to life. FOOL. Guess what?? Since most people here are against gentrification... the crack epidemic was the forefront of gentrification in nyc.

Why should I leave the country? Oh please you are one of those (USA, love or leave it types?) Nope, staying right here, can't take different opinions and views? ...Fascist

stop protecting "laws." Laws are created by people in power. Usually the rich my friend. I am sure none of us here are in that category. So working class people from Queens.. wake up! stop going against your class interest! A law does not have to be "right." Remember Rosa Parks? She "broke the law."

The big drug pushers are on Wall Street. Even at 1 police plaza my friend. If any1 wants some great books to read about drugs and gentrification, I would be more than happy to share.

Peace.

Sal, the quote in the Declaration was written by Thomas Jefferson.

Slavery was savagery. Blacks in ante-bellum S.Carolina owned slaves. Indian owned slaves. Slavery, at the founding of the country, was world-wide apple pie.

Africans in Africa owned slaves.

BTW, those sold into slavery in Africa during the colonial era would have been slaughtered had it not been for their being sold into slavery. Tribal SAVAGERY existed then (and now, witness 300 dead in the church-burning in Kenya).

Slavery bad in America? The slave population INCREASED in the 200 years that this "peculiar institution" was on American soil.

"Sal, the quote in the Declaration was written by Thomas Jefferson."

I never said it was not. I said that the white property owners who signed onto the dec/indp. were slave holders including Jeffy boy.

"Tribal SAVAGERY existed then (and now, witness 300 dead in the church-burning in Kenya)."

Tribal savagery? And the current war and occupation in Iraq is not savagery? This is not only limited to native peoples and Africans.
So we should jump off this eurocentric form of thinking.

"Sal.....they're indigenous peoples......
NOT native Americans....
for America didn't even exist yet!"

Sorry but I refuse to use "indigenous" because that is the term put forth by very elite institutions such as the World Bank and the UN (which I despise for many reasons).

I use native americans because of the simplicity (we all know what N/A refers to). What do you mean by "America." America is from Canada-Argentina is it not? America derived (from what historians and anthropologists claim, an area located in Nicaragua named "Amerrique" which Columbus did visit). So a person born in Colombia or Uruguay is also "American." Last time I checked.. that was South AMERICA.
So lets be wise in how we use America verdi.

Sure. I will remember that the next time someone from Latin America claims, via their name, kinship with the glories of the Ceasars.

The fact is Iberia, like Romania, was a backward outlying province of Rome.

I rather save my family, neighbors and friends lives by anyone thinking 2x before selling drugs to our sons and daughters. Once hooked on crack, Meth, PCP the damage to their health is done and permanent - a lifetime of cost and degradation - waste of lives and nightmare beyond belief for their loved ones. Then you need to confront these folks assaulting you, breaking into your home, an endless cycle of lies, deceit and crime.

What did former Mayor Guiliani say and do to clean up crime years ago - go after the low level crime - grafitti, turnstile jumpers, jay walkers etc as these folks move up the ladder to more serious offenses. Drugs are a scurge on society - ever see a what a habitual Meth user mouth looks like after 6 months? Do we want our daughters bending over for $3 of crack need or sons beating old ladies on the street? Or are you are drug dealer and find your life a bit hard these days?

No, but take drugs and you could easily be lost for life. The original discussion until you went off tangent, is that if an immigrant wishes to be in the USA, follow the laws and forget beating women because their previous society practiced this. Same as drug laws enacted protecting society - commit the crime, do the time.

George my boy, I do hit the books (I am a grad student at NYU). Amerrique - visited by both Columbus and and Vespucci

"The gold-rich district of Amerrique was purportedly visited by both Vespucci and Columbus, for whom the name became synonymous with gold. According to Marcou, Vespucci later applied the name to the New World, and even changed the spelling of his own name from Alberigo to Amerigo to reflect the importance of the discovery."

Sal,

1. My apology for mispelling the last name of the German cartographer - it's WalDseemueller.

2. The "Amerrique" theory is just that - a theory. There's another theory propounded in the early 1900's that America was named after a Bristol, England merchant, Richard Amerike, who supported the navigator John Cabot's voyage.

3. Vespucci was baptized "Amerigho" and not "Alberigo"

4. Hulbert of 1888 certainly can stand modern-day revision.
