Admirals Row demo delay

A plan to tear down 10 historic houses at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and replace them with a supermarket has been delayed indefinitely thanks to a decision by federal officials to review whether the dilapidated 150-year-old mansions can be saved.

Officers’ Row Supermarket Not Happening Anytime Soon

Admirals Row, which overlooks Flushing Avenue near Navy Street, sits on six acres of federally owned land in the otherwise city-controlled Navy Yard.

The National Guard wants to sell the land, and according to local law, must give the city first dibs. But because of the houses’ historic significance, the Guard must also go through an arduous public comment and historic review process.

God bless that fighting Brooklyn spirit!

Somebody did some federal arm twisting.

In Queens.....
these would have been already torn down....

The Brooklyn Navy Yard is full of history. Hopefully the homes of Admirals Row can be saved. The entire City is rapidly losing it's history to quick fixes and "Fedders" housing. Enough to make you sick.

Who can be a bigger idiot than to even think of destroying these beautiful houses and putting a lame supermarket rather than renovating them? I mean seriosly make it into a historical museum but not a freakin supermarket!!! It really drives me insane on how people who are respected and considered in society can be so stupid and selfish for their buisnesses! Im glad the public disagrees with them! And i dont know how these officials got to where they are in the first place. Now they want to target Coney Island! I spit in their faces!
They have no respect for their nation and its history and therefore are a controdiction whenever they pledge allgiance to our country's flag! I agree with Ed, they just make me SICK!
