Rail yard plan under fire

NEW RAIL-YARD PLAN UNDER FIRE
By TOM TOPOUSIS, NY Post

A coalition of community groups that successfully fought construction of a football stadium over the West Side rail yards is now taking aim at the latest proposals to build a massive complex of apartments, office towers and parks at the site.

In a letter this week to MTA chief Elliot Sander, the group's leaders argue that the five proposals from private developers are too big and would overburden city services.

"The scale of the buildings is overwhelming," wrote Anna Levin, chairwoman of the Hudson Yards Community Advisory Committee.

Levin called the proposals "an unprecedented density over such a large area anywhere in the city."

The plans all call for towers, some of which rise as high as the Empire State Building.

I heard this plan will be bigger than Atlantic Yards, is this true?
