That sounds like to me that there is some sort of a problem with a kitchen and bath that look "very club like" and a swimming pool.
It does not literally say that they should not have those amenities, it imply's that the "Queens we know" should not.
Please by all means correct me if I am mistaken.
This is a result of rezoning to accommodate developers. I would say this was forced upon Queens. The people who live here weren't asking for highrises at Queens Plaza. If those who choose to live in them want golf, that's a different issue.
The people who live in Queens do not prefer the current, drab Queens Plaza to new, luxury and high-end amenity filled condos. This blog would make you think that people in Queens aren't good enough for high-end buildings and nice amenities.
These highrises aren't being built for the people of Queens. They are being built for cheap Manhattanites, transplants from other parts of the country and foreign investors.
I have lived in Queens my entire life and I remember what that part of Huners Point was like before the City Lights building was built.
I like it better now.
As far as those buildings not being built for the people of Queens, the people living in them....they now ARE the people of Queens.
That's right, to hell with the people who were here already. Why should developers build homes for people who were born and raised here and would like to continue to live here? Better to build cheap crap for the tweeded and highrises for the well off. F*ck the working class.
I have lived in Queens my entire life and I like the new LIC developments better than what had been there too. I also know quite a few people moving into these condos from other parts of Queens.
Unless everyone commenting here are Native Americans or had family on the Mayflower, you or your family came to Queens from someplace else as well. Maybe we shouldn't have built all that housing in Queens after WWII for the returning soldiers, since they didn't live in Queens before . . .

Bad example. Those were working class people for the most part. As for Native Americans, they weren't the first either.
Yes, a lot of the apartments and condos in Hunters Point are on the more expensive side but I have seen plenty of apartments and condos being built throughout the borough for the working class .I have seen at least twenty 3 family houses built within 10 blocks of my working class neighborhood home so I fail to see what your argument is.

What is so great about this? Its a kitchen and a bathroom the size of a closet for a million plus, Im sure. Not to mention, its the same standard boring mass produced cabinetry and appliances you see in every new building going up around the city. Not very original.
In 5-10 years, its going to look very dated. Hopefully, the morons pouring their hard earned money into this schlock will get some of it back. But dont count on it.

So it is ok to build housing for people to move to Queens that you find acceptable, but not for others? People who are not "working class people," as you term it, who want to move to Queens should not be free to do so? And I'm not sure why you distinguish "working class," because I am certain that white collar people "work" pretty hard themselves.
We need more middle income housing, not luxury housing. The middle class is leaving in droves because they can't afford to live here anymore. We need to stop the hemorrhaging, and a handful of units in complexes that house hundreds may sound good but does nothing to help solve the problem.
