Neir's Tavern's building gets bought by a mysterious LLC based in a College Point house.

Future of landmark Neir’s in jeopardy 1

Queens Chronicle

The building that has been home to historic Neir’s Tavern for 190 years has been sold.
Negotiations for a new lease are underway with a management company that represents the new owners, according to a spokesman for the landmark bar.

“No one knows what’s going to happen,” said Ed Wendell, head of the Woodhaven Cultural and Historical Society.

The historic building at 78th Street and 88th Avenue in Woodhaven was sold in mid-December to a limited liability corporation based in College Point, according to city records The sale price was listed at $1.35 million.

The sale came as a surprise to the bar’s owner, Rendell said.
News of the sale was first disclosed last weekend when Neir’s owner, Loycent Gordon, a New York City firefigher who bought the bar 10 years ago and began restoring it, appeared at the Woodhaven Residents’ Block Association’s monthly meeting.

The new managers of the building — which also includes a recording studio, a karate studio and two private apartments — “had no idea until I told them” that it housed a piece of New York history, Gordon told the meeeting.

Originally, the managers intended to put “a grocery store or a liquor store” in the spot where Neir’s is, they told Gordon, who said he was “speechless” when he learned last month he had a new landlord.

The identity of the new owners is — as is often the case with commercial real estate transactions — difficult to track down.

A corporation named 353 Rockaway Realty LLC is listed as the new owner. Records show its address as a single-family, private home in College Point. The owner of the home, Xuiming Shi, does not have a listed phone, nor can any other phones associated with the address be found.

The bar is 190 years old and they don't own the building?

And it's not a landmark because it's located in Queens.

Last Call for Alcohol!

Get your drinks before the demolition crew gets there.

Huge construction on the horizon!

So sad.

More Asian crap coming to a building near you.

Who's City council district is this in?

I truly hope and pray that this historic landmark stays as is, and hope that the owner of the bar will be able to financially keep it. He has done so much to restore this and bring it back to its glory!!!!

This whole thing is strange. Like someone said, how could it be that after 190 years in business, none of the owners actually bought the building. That was poor management. Also, I don't see Woodhaven as a typical spot for Asians to build their usual crap or have any interest, they prefer northern Queens.

In other cities the government would step in an save a part of the urban fabric. Not NY. We are a backdrop for the fascist Queens Democratic Party that IS the state. Their targeted donor and voter bases are the only thing of interest. An Asian developer? Hell yes!

The entire boro is a third-world eyesore because of it.

^Anon1 - seriously, right? Places trade hands, but if you know the value of something and want it badly enough - you make an effort to own the thing. Can't complain now if nobody ever bothered.

BTW this place was showcased on Bourdain's episode where he went through Queens.

Now it makes sense why the owner of the bar wanted to landmark the building. He didn't own it!

They gonna jack his rent so high he cant afford, pilfer the valuable inside fixtures then destroy the building and put up a 6 - 12 family Asian box.
What these Asian and foreign money is doing makes me sick.

We have that Texas immigrant loving imbecile George H.W. Bush, and the Congress of 1990 to thank for this.
Bill Clinton no better--was more concentrated on Monica and female MTV reporters under the table to pass congressional legislature to rescind this stupid, once illegal "buy a green card" scam.

The shill worked by create this EB-5 "buy a green card" program under the guise of stimulating the U.S. economy through capital investment by foreign investors.

All these Asians, Russian (whatever)need to do is pool ($500K) as one family of 50 or so people and come over. They all have the same popular impossible to verify last names "Lee" Wang" Chang" --no way of checking. Setting these EB-5 green card scams are big money, LLCs put them together overseas.
Its a flawed program and nobody will write a bill to rescind it due to all the money exchanging hands.

Here is how it works.

Like many of the newcomers who plan on staying for a long while, the transients really do not see this as their home so why should they give a shit about what happens here and whether it's a good thing for us or not. They have their own home towns or home countries they really care most about. This is just a place they stay for their respective benefits so the history and native culture of Queens and her towns means nothing to them.

Really, we're more like a borough-sized, long-term residency hotel with guests from around the country and around the world and having nothing more in common with each other than we are all staying in the same hotel. The guests are here for their own reasons, do not care about the concerns or problems of the other guests and generally treat the hotel Queens and its employees, the native residents, with ill-disguised contempt.

So how's the nation of immigrants meme working out for y'all?

I hope there is a happy ending to this story.

Its not a landmark. Its 190 year old dive bar with no pool table. Wake up. You can watch TV and drink at home for a lot less money.

An un landmarked building in Queens? Consider it gone.

Any schmuck saying it has to do with Dems or whatever clearly didn't know what happened here. It was a scumbag owner, David Eng, lying to all the tenants and selling it out from under their noses overnight. This is well-known in the neighborhood.

Gentrification through government handouts and a huge money chest. New Square's Hasidic and Orthodox are doing the same in Rockland. Then the control the local votes.
