Amazon sends glossy junk mail to Queens residents.

Queens Chronicle

“Happy New Year from your future neighbors at Amazon.”

That’s the message in one of two fliers being sent to residents in Queens as the company tries to win over residents in its controversial move to the borough.

“The announcement of our new headquarters in Long Island City was the beginning of what we hope will be a long and mutually beneficial partnership between New Yorkers and Amazon,” the mailer says.

The positive aspects of the move are touted in both fliers, including the creation of 25,000 new jobs over 10 years and career training for residents.

The first flier says Amazon will be a “partner” with the community.

The flier also encourages people to call state Sen. Michael Gianaris (D-Astoria) or other state lawmakers to tell them to support the project.

Gianaris has been a critic of Amazon’s move to Queens.

"It's ironic that Amazon wants billions of our taxpayer dollars and is spending so much to convince the people of western Queens that it is entitled to those dollars," Gianaris said in a statement. "People will not be fooled by slick advertising — they will continue to be against the Amazon deal and so will I."

Critics of the company’s move to Long Island City have pointed to the $3 billion in tax breaks as well as concerns about the impact on housing prices and if there is enough transportation to handle all the new commuters.

7 train is always packed and there’s always some sort of work going on. I read an article about how a small town became the transport hub of the US and home owners can’t let their kids play in the streets due to tractor trailers flying by. Many truck drivers are not experienced and are contractors. I don’t know how deblasio and Cuomo both think this is a win for NYC or Queens. The jobs will be I suspect all contract work.

Amazon employees are not unionized. Why no comments from NYC unions?

Every day I check the web... no Crappy. Glad you're back. Hope everything's OK.

The 7 train will need 2 levels to support this at rush hour. You cant add any more trains without spacing them under 1/2 mile apart during those times.
Rents in Jackson Heights and Corona are gonna triple, its bad enough hipshitz have been showing up offering higher rent. -in cash.
These tech people Amazon will import will pay even more.

Both deblasio and Cuomos plan is to drive everybody out or make them slaves because thats what Communists do. Just watch this team try and ban ALL guns and confiscate all single family homes next.

NYC needs more tech firms but the way Amazon, Diblassio & Cuomo did things to make it happen is a truly disrespectful to the residents. Secret back room deals is not the way, furthermore it is undemocratic !!

The pols are upset only because they were not at the table getting their cut of the action. So they will make trouble using the stooges of the public until they get what they want.

“These tech people Amazon will import will pay even more.”

Tech people will probably want to live in LIC. They might want to venture out to Astoria, Woodside, etc. Corona? It’s a dump. I’ve been on rush hour trains going to Astoria and the commuters have been professionals for a few years now.

Unions are useless and corrupt to me or filled with low paid staffs with meaningless jobs.

It’s all going to be temp work in the fulfillment centers. The lucky ones will maybe work in an office job.

I haven’t read up on the types of jobs available at these types of fulfillment centers except temp work with quotas per hour.

Google also has a shopping service, called Froogle. Walmart bought Jet.com.
Google should buy our loyalty by giving free wimax to the entir city.
