From The Real Deal:
Amazon is opening its first fulfillment center in Queens at the site of the former Bulova watch company headquarters in Woodside, sources told The Real Deal.
The e-commerce giant signed a lease for 83,000 square feet with San Francisco-based Terreno Realty Corporation, which bought the three-acre campus near the intersection of Queens’ major highways in March for $25.17 million, according to sources familiar with the deal.
Representatives for Terreno and Amazon could not be immediately reached for comment.
The new fulfillment and distribution center marks a further expansion into the five boroughs for the e-tailer and provides a boost of confidence for investors betting that demand from e-commerce companies will boost industrial property values.

more low paying jobs . . .
Better than no jobs.
Think of it like working at McDonalds during high school. It’s a starter job.
"more low paying jobs"
Any job is better than no job.
People on the public dole need to work and stop using tax money to sit home and do nothing.
Well isn't that just fucking grand. How much did the city and state sell out in subsidies and abatements for Bezos to continue to build his obscene personal fortune.
This explains Cuomo's retarded air train approval. Guarantee all the high paying jobs will be going to people getting transferred from Seattle.
And say goodbye to grocery stores and bodegas. And this will certainly cause more traffic with deliveries coming in and out of that "fulfillment center"
With all the hotels being built in Eastern Queens, at least the workers will have a roof over their heads.
Amazon passes local liberal muster but WalMart doesn't?
I gotta tip on an empty 30 year old, 56,000 sq ft. building on thirty acres of land, 10 miles from an interstate and low, low taxes, for a minimum bid of $350,000.

Sure Amazon is a liberal company. Walmart is/has been a conservative company.
Nuff said?
A horrible location . Ever walk or drive or bike around there??? Come to think of it, there aren't any bike lanes in that area.
I'm glad they are coming here. That's what we need. We dont need anymore homeless shelters/hotels or un"affordable" housing here.
“It’s a starter job”
Sadly for many, it’s not. It’s their full time job, or a second job to try to make ends meet. There aren’t enough high school students to fill every fast food job in the city. Who works there during school hours? But hey, fuck them, right? They should have gone to school?
A traffic nightmare. Only the bqe can be used for moving around trucks,so local streets in quiet east Elmhurst are screwed. Even more traffic around laguardia
Airport.
Only a few public transport options, all bus. This is such a bad thing!
Better to bring in more jobs to Queens than homeless shelters.

Haahaa got that right.
No boon here, Amazon works you like a slave and pays minimum wage where most work from home on a Amazon issued laptop. Years to get a raise or till you quit.
Fine for someone living out in some boonsvill with $300 rent & living expenses but Amazon wages can never support NYC persons cost of living.
BTW That will be mostly a NYC northeast warehouse operation to save Amazon shipping $$ but useless for the people who live here
Lets translate this.
"near 2 major highways, fulfillment and distribution center' provides a boost of confidence for investors betting that demand from e-commerce companies will boost industrial property values"
Yes more traffic and higher commercial property rents for little people that live here. Anybody who thinks this will create local jobs is a fool. Perhaps a couple local union loading dock workers and drivers wearing out their cars and dealing with tickets for 25 cents a mile but that's about it
There are not enough jobs to earn a living for people that are not working white collar jobs. The economy has flipped from decades ago when blue collar workers could put in 8 hours and live a comfortable life.
Amazon's facility didn't make this happen. It is a change that has been happening for a long time as technology reigns supreme.

The GCP is a Parkway,no co commercial traffic allowed. Will this rule be changed or disregarded??
It's Trump's fault !
The GCP may be a an issue.
Amazon uses the cheapest labor possible, including trucking by lots of young inexperienced drivers. Most of Amazon goods come from port of Long Beach in Ca, Newark & Mexico.
Lots of young green CDL drivers unfamiliar with the area.
Can the aging local GCP overpasses in lousy condition handle the slam of 12-20 tons packed 18 wheeler at 50MPH ?
