From the NY Times:
Real estate executives say that the city has narrowed the [Willets Point] field to three developers, including Related Companies and its partner Sterling Equities, a real estate company formed by Fred Wilpon and Saul B. Katz, the owners of the Mets. But the executives and some city officials also say it has been difficult to make the project financially viable.

Just make them sell the Mets! Do not, under any circumstance except for protest, Occupy CitiField this season! Send the Coupons away!
I wasn't embarrassed by the Mets in 1962; I am by the Wilpons.
Fred's got a nasty looking pickle puss!
Sterling should not be considered for any Wiletts Point project- Citifield is a disaster and these guys are broke and shady.
Unless it's all conspiracy theories I've come across, I thought the pre-Madoff Wilpon grand scheme for Wiletts Point was a hockey arena (and at least part-ownership) for the Islanders and a soccer stadium for the future, once-again New York Cosmos.
