To hookah or not to hookah?

From the Daily News:

Despite popular belief, scientists have recently discovered that hookah smoke contains at least two cancer-causing elements - and can be just as addictive as cigarettes, says a recent Harvard Medical School study.

Someone who smokes a hookah for 45 minutes to an hour at a rate of two 10-second puffs per minute is inhaling 10%-to-50% more nicotine, says a 2009 study published in the Current Science journal.

Sheepshead Bites reports that local pols State Senator Marty Golden, Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny and Council Member Vincent Gentile all have pending legislation that would ban or limit hookah smoking.

For someones stake, let people do what they want. Screw the nanny staters.
If you doubt this, ask anyone who lived under the rule of the ultimate nanny state, the USSR.

Hookahs (love it) is smoking and thus to be outlawed and eliminated as cigars and cigarettes are.

Besides, look closely these contraptions are nothing but 70's bongs that you smoke weed in - don't kid yourself.

"Someone who smokes a hookah for 45 minutes to an hour at a rate of two 10-second puffs per minute..."

Wait a minute. Two ten second puffs a minute for 45 minutes????
Do the math. That's a fifteen minute puff over a period of 45 minutes. Fifteen minutes of smoke saturating your body over 45 minutes. One doesn't have to be a genius to determine that this is quite unhealthy.

what happened to the idea of a free country? If people want to smoke, let them.

This was used to empty out the apartments in whole sections of Astoria - the long term residents couldn't stand the smells penetrating into every nook and cranny - stinking their clothes - trying to sleep as backyards of these illegal lounges were filled with grim men talking to 3 AM.

Needless to say there was the hope-for population change. People take only so much abuse that falls on deaf ears before they pack up an leave.

Now these places are filled by Middle Eastern types - permitting whole opportunities for tweeding. Just take a look a how Peter ("I don't have money for you they cut my funds") Vallone funds some of his programs.

Cigars are an old Virginia tradition. They are banned.

Hookahs an old Arab tradition. They are an instrument to tweed and are encouraged.

Post these findings along Steinway Street!

When those hookah lounges open their doors....they spew toxin laced second hand smoke onto the street.

Astoria ain't 19th century Arabia.

No, its 19th century Fourth Ward.

If they want to smoke a hookah, let them go back to their country to do it. Ban them here. They're unsanitary and unhealthy.

Really? Have you passed a cigar bar recently? Try walking past the one on 41st Ave off Bell Blvd when ya gat a chance. IT STINKS!!! It's especially offensive during the warm weather when the patrons stand outside and let the smoke drift all over the place. What about the rights of the families buying ices a few doors down?

D I S G U S T I N G ! ! !

Naw, the machine tells them to post this shit so that all the goody two shoes that know things suck (but take money from the 'bhoys' a-tweedin' and feel therefore a bit conflicted) use this as an excuse not to post here about the glaring faults to the system.

Anon No. 10:

Jamaica and Southern Queens were the Fourth Ward. Astoria and Long Island City were the First Ward.

The Old Fourth Ward was a reference to the Lower East Side, home of Tammany Hall and Al Smith and Boss Tweed.

The is more to the world than Queens.

Thank God.
