So there won't be a million more people by 2030?

From the NY Post:

The feds say Brooklyn’s population grew by a scant 1.6 percent while Queens’ barely budged, up just 0.1 percent, which translates to 1,300 people since 2000. Other boroughs averaged about a 4 percent jump.

Overall, the city claims New York’s population is 8.4 million, compared to the census bureau’s estimate of 8.175 million.

The discrepancy could mean hundreds of millions in lost federal aid, and city officials vowed to fight to force the feds to revise the numbers upward.

City officials say other census numbers simply don’t add up. They point out that about 170,000 new housing units have sprung up in the past decade – while the census says the population increased by only about 166,000.

Well there are an awful lot of empty luxury units and unsold craphouses, in case you haven't noticed. Now, either your prediction of a million more people by 2030 is full of shit, or no one can truly estimate the number of people in our sanctuary city full of illegal conversions. Imagine that.

I would bet my life that the population of Queens exploded. Not all housing development was luxury housing. You don't even have to look at Long Island City. Look at Flushing and the surrounding neighborhoods for example. That neighborhood has been booming for the past decade or so.

Yep. Census estimates in 2009 were that NYC had close to 8.4M people. And now they say the city has less than 8.2M? Clearly there were problems with the count, which wouldn't surprise me. Especially after hearing all the census-resistance comments on this blog!

Know which neighborhood lost the most population according to the official census counts? Astoria. It lost more than 10,000 people between 2000 and 2010. Who's going to believe that?

Maybe they didn't count the "undocumented"

Looks like the feds are telling us we're hallucinating. Those people we see every day overcrowding our neighborhoods don't exist by their count.

Pretty apparent there are no illegal occupancies in Queens by the way the bean counters counted or them that live in em didn't Stand Up to be Counted.

Check all the basements and attics; they'll find Queens has doubled its population!

Proof,Mr Bloomberg and liberal pols that importing immigrants into a community drains limited resources. Less space in schools. less parking spots, less english speaking stores, less taxable income, LESS FEDERAL DOLLARS!
The only benefit was to liberal democrats and rich developers who took advantage to line their own pockets.
To Hell With the Middle Class outer Borough NYers, you said.

The census worker that came to my house, couldn't speak english well enough to fill out the census form correctly. I had to have a second interview on the phone, to correct the descrepencies. I wonder how many census were just thrown out by these mistakes????

How, pray tell, do those two groups benefit here?

Undoc's are not able to vote (at least not legally) and are generally too poor to buy/rent those new developments.

You are just defecting your anger onto something you hate more than the truth.

That truth is that it is economic forces that draw these people to your area. The fact that local businesses, --and your neighbors-- will hire them.

So, unless you and your local conservative business owners are willing to pay enough to get Americans to do what work is needed...You might as well, STFU.

Really? Since 2000 let's count the number of 1 and 2 family homes that have been replaced by small buidings with 12 and 26 apartments in them. All occupied in my part of Flushing, snd all occupied by rather large famililes. I think the population just on my block doubled. Guees they need to hire census counters that can actually count.

Then write to your Congressional representatives and ask why current Census field representatives with appropriate experience and skill sets are barred from applying for enumerator positions during the Decennial Census counts. There's a can of worms you don't want to open...or do you??? If you really cared, you'd bring up that issue!!! Just sayin'...

As a former Census enumerator who wanted to do a good job (I wish my co-workers had the same attitude), I used to tell uncooperative households that if all people aren't counted but live here, then there is a strain put on everyone else. You see, if we counted 100 people on a block where 150 people actually live, then the government apportions money for the 100 but 150 people are using that funding allotment.

If this point were made more clearly, then perhaps the results would have been better. A 63% response rate was UNACCEPTABLE! Who's in charge here???

By the way, the goal of the Census count was to enumerate ALL people living at each address, legal or illegal. Good luck with that!

The census counting in this part of the country was more about ethnocentric posturing and press releases than actual counting of heads. I didn't have to have an enumerator of my particular ethnicity or race. It was no secret that the census was going on.

Hipster men count as half.

I enjoyed watching Bloomturd's hissy fit. What a maggot.

The undercount will provide NYC with less federal funding. On the other hand, we will probably lose a congressional seat. I volunteer Gary Ackerman's!!!

I demand a recount!

@ Gary If you're talking about last year's election---SO DO WE!!!

Glad there was an undercount. Maybe this will force our local politicians to address our illegal population and crack down on them. For turning a blind eye to this problem we will lose federal dollars and political seats. When they stop pandering to the illegals the numbers will change.

Mike Bloomburg designated New York as a sanctuary city. He caters to the illegals and they don't want to be counted. They just want their free services - education, foodstamps, medical. What did he expect the census numbers to be? That's why they call them undocumented. Someday the illegal immigration situation will be addressed. When the are cut off from their free services they will go home. Then, middle class people will come back to the city to reside and pay taxes.

Thank goodness 10,000 people left Astoria.

Now if only 10,000 MORE people would leave.

The fact is the influx of illegals has precisely pushed out the long term middle class here on one end and the 'beautiful ones' at the 'top' have pushed out even more.

THE BLOOMBERG / QUINN WAY.
