Avella refuses parking placard

From Bayside Patch:

State Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, may be spending a lot more time in his car.

Avella says he has cut up a special placard he was issued by the State, which would have given him special privileges to leave his car in “no-parking” zones and at unpaid meters.

The lawmaker’s office said he was troubled by the wording on the parking placard: “This vehicle is on official police business.”

“Elected officials using placards stating that they are on official police business is flat-out wrong,” said Avella. He believes the phrase must be immediately changed.

"We should have to experience the same parking dilemmas that every citizen of this City and State face on a day-to-day basis,” Avella said. “By experiencing these problems we develop a better understanding of the transportation issues facing our constituency.”

Nice cute political stunt. Now try and ban use of the placard altogether.

Avella is an all around honest politician, something very rare to find. Among other things he refused a pay increase. I'm sure he truly wants to help Albany to actually do something useful for once.

Might we have a real, honest politician for a change?

Maybe the man is interested in the public good.

It's a breath of fresh air.

Avella for Mayor!

Is he from Mars or what! I love this guy - send him to Elmhurst, Middle Village and Maspeth!

Well, that move just earned "phony" Tony another media op!

Anoither nice grandstanding ploy...though we would all prefer Avella get some real legislation passed that will improve our daily lives.

How many bills has he introduced?
How many will he get passed?

Or, which bills will Toby Stavisky allow her freshman to introduce?

Oops, is he hiding under her skirt again (gag)?

Here boy, here boy....Parkside is calling!

Anonymous said...

Notice he has a problem with the Police placard, but he'll accept his "official business" placard.

Anonymous said...

He also voted AGAINST capping property tax raises at 2%, as the unions ordered him to do.

Anonymous said...

Don't be fooled.

There's no such thing as an honest politician.

And in the extremely unlikely case that there might be...a snowball in hell has a better chance to survive or get any really good laws passed!

Parkside is Avella's dark side!

He'll always be beholding to that political mafia.

You'd better take this one Tony...Evan is holding for you on line #1.

Avella is nothing more than a publicity seeking asshole! Just like his mentors, the Stavisky family.

PHONY TONY, PHONY TONY, PHONY TONY!

How do you spell Stavisky's pussy boy?

A-V-E-L-L-A!

LOL...all show and no blow!

Has Avella removed the illegal swimming pool from his Whitestone backyard yet?

Did DOB let the violation ride?

Wasn't Tony chief of staff for the late Leonard Stavisky?

He's the one who met me out in front of their headquarters before I could even ring the doorbell to gain entrance.

I wound up handing him my complaint file and got thanked on the lawn 15 feet in front of the door.

Has anyone ever been inside their inner sanctum?

And then there are still those polluted College Point ball fields.

Are we sure that the best possible remediation methods were eventually employed to remove all poisons there?

Our kids are playing there!

H-m-m-m....a lot of unanswered questions still remain and haunt us.

Anonymous said...

Yep....Antonio still won't accept full responsibility for hiring that mobbed-up toxic remediation firm.

Some of those who opposed Padavan's re-election said they were doing so because Frank would be in the Senate's minority party and that he would have no clout with the Democratic majority. I guess the only person with less clout would be a freshman senator in the minority party - especially one who seems to antagonize everyone. Oh, the irony.

Stop picking on my bot er boy Tony. If not, I'll take my ball and go home.

Uh oh! Where's home? Upstate? Manhattan? Queens? I get so confused. Does anyone know what my legal address is? I sure don't!

Hey Evan---if you weren't such a dorky, lowlife crook you wouldn't have those problems. Right?

Agreed. Take the plaque and do something constructive for our community. We'd rather you take the time you'll be looking for parking and do something constructive with it. OR instead of paying for a parking spot now with Taxpayer money, just take the illegal FREE spot.

Avella should start some kind of crusade. He sound like a stand up guy
I still haven't seen him pounding his fist and REALLY blowing a whistle calling out this asshole Hitler like mayor and posse.

Sometimes that's what it takes to really get both asleep people and medias attention. You have to remember media loves anything that will keep people hands of a remote control.
Just be sure whats said doesn't backfire like Palladino.

Perhaps Avella should switch party lines or run as an indie.

He'll NEVER be his own man. No matter what party he belongs to, he will still be a product of the Stavisky's. He sold his sole to them long ago. And still uses them to get elected. A vote for Avella is a vote for The Parkside Group and Stavisky.

I resemble that remark!

I think Avella is a publicity grabbing phony as well, but to his credit, he was invaluable in protesting the development of the old Flushing Airport to house hundreds of wholesale businesses.
Sometimes you have to go with the lesser of the evils.

I don't trust any politicians (Avella included)with Democrat-liberal backgrounds period.
Thats what I judge by...not the coat they pick to wear.
Democrats are just as bad, pro-multicultraism, left and dirty as the scumbags that run the entertainment industry.

Treat them like dirty diapers, or cockroaches (dont allow them around too long)
Once in groups they are guaranteed fester beyond cleaning.
Dems can do huge damage in a short amount of time (they call it progress and call anybody who disagrees a racist) ask anybody from the Town of North Hempstead or S Ozone Park

Good job Tony, keep it up.

I read these comments and think - its certainly not a liberal/conservative consideration, or Dem/Rep one, or a progressive/right wing problem.

It is NYC. Everyone is entrenched. There are no people to clean the house.

Will it change??

Anonymous said...

Granted, Avella is no great shakes, but none of you scribblers can name three things that Padavan acutally did to help our community. Go ahead, and be specific!

Anonymous said...

Smart move "chooch"!

Now state Senator Avella will have an all time excuse for being late (or missing) important meetings he should have arrived at early.

"Wah, wah, wah...I couldn't find a parking space"!

Good Try "phony" Tony posing to be a man of the people.

What he really covets is civil service job security.

Toby Stavisky will make sure he gets one after he's faithfully finished serving her and sonny boy's Parkside.

tony the reformist hero

go make evan some money the only honorable thing tony ever did was support that reformist hero steve behar

Anonymous said...

poor tony avella he is not bad as the rest of the parkide hacks

but when the indictments come dowm he will be thrown under the bus

tony " i vote to help evan stavisky's clients" where are the feds????

Anonymous said...

Uh...former Senator Padavan kept our neighborhoods intact.

He upheld our quality of life.

Is that specific enough dumb-ass.

And how many fine homes were disfigured, dismembered or demolished after Avella's dizzying schedule of whistle-stop press conferences held in front of them?

He ran a malarchy marathon of these that probably beat out John Liu's!

He's got no power unless the Staviskys allow him to utter a peep!

Anonymous said...

A good heart without a strong hand won't beat over development.

And Tony knows that he's just a sheep among wolves in that department.

Bleat, bleat, bleat!

He just needs his job and you might find him under Moby Staviskys skirt busily eagerly her ass, when necessary, in order to keep it.

Anonymous said...

Oops...I omitted..."KISSING HER ASS"!

Anonymous said...

Getting a police placard is just one of your play-cards.

Use it well and stop the ballyhoo!

Get some good laws passed and be remembered for that...instead of gaining notoriety as being a "little Mary quite contrary"!!

Anonymous said...

Here we go again...deja vu...the old city council days.

Tony sticks his finger in someone's eye in lieu of getting legislation passed!

Anonymous said...

He needs the headlines.

Even an obituary notice is better than no press coverage at all for a politician.

Without a constant stream of press notice, it becomes a pol's death knell anyway.

Please do not forget that Tony is, after all, a POLITICIAN!

Anonymous said...

tony will be retired in 2 years

no doubt

Anonymous said...

Plenty of doubt. Most people eat up stuff like this.

Anonymous said...

steve behar has honor and smarts

something parkside hacks would never undertsand. if steve or some other person such as tom cooke were state senator you could ask him to help and they would be there for you

now if you need help you have to write evan stavisky a check

Anonymous said...

another good guy to watch is andrew rocco who will be running for nettie mayersohns seat,

But what about Jose Peralta - who Fox 5 exposed for abusing his parking privileges. Parked without feeding meters and told Fox that he was on business - and the car was right across the street from his house. Check out the video at http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/shame/state-senator-parking-placard-20110210
