The contents of the Steinway Mansion are now on sale, including the infamous voodoo mask found in the attic. Visit Capo Auctions for more details and to bid.
A friend was rummaging around the third story a few years ago and found this trunk - mentioned it to the old man who chuckled - it belonged to a circus side show at one time - funny how the family is hinting that it belonged to the Steinways once.
Well, so much for community pride.
After the destruction of Old Astoria and the dissension the pols sowed in Sunnyside Gardens in the landmarking process is no surprise that this is happening.
The leaderhsip of a community can do a lot of damage - but a community gets the leadership it deserves.
Since the community is so good at bulldozing its historic frabic out of existance and displacing its population to build eyesore barracks and hotels on brownfields, anyone guess what is going here?
The Voodoo Mask aside, Mike Halberian did manage to collect some nice pieces, like the original Duncan Phyfe settee, and the original Benjamin Pike barometers.
I'm sure the mansion will survive somehow, but what about that property next door with all the junk cars in it? What's up with that? Anyone know who owns it?

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt

Voodoo Masks. Estimated value, get this,
$500 to $70,000.
That's the biggest range of all the stuff in the catalogue.
What gives?

Better be careful. You may get snyphilis!!!
Tomorrow's the big day! Who's going to Capo's to bid on one or more of these items in person?
Is there any German-American who can save the mansion, and restore it to its former glory?
Somebody bid $250 for the voodoo masks.
The voodoo masks went for $2,500. The Vanderbilt nautical telescope for $28,000. The huge MacNeil bronze sculpture of the Indian warrior for $38,000.
Watching the Halberian collection vanish in a manner of minutes in real time is amazing.
