As predicted...

From the Daily News:

Queens residents may not love the idea, but the City Council is undeterred: A 6-1 committee vote this afternoon cleared the way for the full council to rename the only free route out of their borough as the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge.

Just last Friday, a Quinnipiac University poll found 70% of Queens residents -- and 64% of New Yorkers overall -- opposed to the renaming.

Still, Queens council members Elizabeth Crowley, Daniel Dromm and Julissa Ferreras voted for it today, as did James Vacca of the Bronx, Melissa Mark Viverito of Manhattan and Vincent Gentile of Brooklyn.

The only objection came from Queens Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, who said that while he likes the former mayor, his constituents are unanimously opposed to changing the name.

Elizabeth Crowley is an ass kisser. She got her lips puckered just for Quinn. She went from tea bagging to carpet munching. Way to go you DUMB BIMBO!

Amazing,

We elect them, give them their jobs, and they could care less what we have to say about things. The Mayor is cutting budgets everywhere. Threats of teacher layoffs and firehouse closings abound and yet they can spend millions for new signage to rename a bridge?

At what point to the people say enough is enough? These politicians need to be shown the door. Repeal them, vote them out (if not term limited). Go to their offices, protest in front, email them, flood their offices with phone calls, even if you do not live in their district, you live in Queens and thus have every right to call, email, protest them and their decistion.

How many times are we going to get slapped in the face?

As Queens councilmembers, Gennaro, Katz, Liu, David Weprin and others put their names on public trashcans when they got in office in 2002.
Isn't there on trashcans, where the names of living politicians belong?

There goes the neighborhood...

Isn't it sad that the politians are more concerned with renaming a bridge, rather than address the major issues in the city? Goes to show our community, they haven't a clue!

If you are insulted by that, wait til you see what I have up my sleeves.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Big surprise!

Bloomberg, Crowley, Dromm, Ferreras, et. al. have already decided that the voters are irrelevant, so they elected a new people - illegal immigrants!

Why not continue the trend? Who cares what the voters want?

The city Council are our intellectual superiors, and know what's best for us!

How dare they???? Do you see anyone changing the Brooklyn Bridge to the Koch Bridge? Or the Giuliani Bridge? This is an outrage and an insult. I've really had enough of these imbeciles. Where did Halloran weigh in on this travesty, by the way?

THESE COUNCIL PEOPLE HAVE ALL TAKEN LEAVE OF THEIR SENSES AND LOST THEIR MORAL COMPASS A LONG TIME AGO. DON'T WORRY, I'LL BE LEAVING NEW YORK FOREVER WITHIN THE NEXT 8 YEARS!!!!!

Full council vote, when Halloran will be voting, is tomorrow.

"the only free route out of their borough"

Eh? I can drive to Long Island and Brooklyn for free. And walking or biking to The Bronx, Manhattan, Long Island, and Brooklyn is also free.

Seriously, fuck the city council. Total god damned waste of our money, and extremely insulting to boot.

Dromm is another clown who sold out his constituents. It doesn't make a difference what we want. It comes down to what he wants and he gets his way. When I called his office I was told "he wasn't sure which way he'd vote." DUH!! I knew then he was sitting on the fence and would kiss up to Quinn baby and screw his Queens constituency. Whatever he wants we get but whatever we want never happens. This guy is a disgrace & his voting record rots. Seems like he's only concerned with Jack. Hgts. and the heck with the rest of his councilmatic district. Please vote him out next time around or we'll all drown in his muck!!!!!!!!!!

Exclusive to Queens Crap.

Former Governor Mario Cuomo has taken a break in his deliberations on the Madoff/Wilpon case. He has signaled his intent on refereeing the contentious renaming of the Queensboro Bridge. His advice to the NYC Council:

"I propose the name 'The Queensboro-Sfacim Bridge'. Remember to vote for Cuomo. Not the Homo."

what did you expect from the city council progressive caucus?

their agenda in n.y.c. is homosexual rights and domination. the bridge name is their first gay structural site.

many more on the way.

Folks, you get what you pay for.

Gird yourselves.

Today, March 23, the former Steinway mansion owner Mike Halberian's artifacts go on display at the auction house. Tomorrow and Friday as well.

A harbinger of the destruction of the actual mansion itself?

Fare-thee-well Queens history. First our ICONIC bridge. Now what?

I think it's time to DISBAND the City Council. Imagine all the money we could save by getting rid of them and their staffs. They'd have to get real jobs like the common folk. The Council only serves the interests of themselves not the people. Dump them. There will be less criminals in the political system.

NY City Council = CRIMINALS!!!

Don't waste taxpayer money on a bridge renaming when firehouses and libraries are closing and teachers are being laid off! Dumbasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say impeach every one of 'em who votes for the Krotch Bridge!

How many?

If I were a betting man, I'd say 2.

Time to get rid of the City Council. The city operated without one for many years and was never in the financial situation that we are in now. If they can throw out the leaders in Egypt, why can't we Americans do it here? Time for a revolution.

The City Council should have re-named the Manhattan Bridge after Koch.

That would have been a perfect matc; a nothing bridge named after a nothing mayor.

Anonymous said...

Guess the City Council, headed by a big Queen realized that Koch is a big Queen and hence named the bridge after him.

BTW, wanted everyone to know that only one person from Queens showed up to testify against it.

No one from QCC.

No one from the Preservation Council that meets at Borough Hall.

No one representing the Queens Historian.

No one representing any of the elected officials.

Uh-ah. THAT is why they renamed it, folks. So sit here and act like its a college lounge.

The real world is leaving Queens behind.

They rushed it through, w/o publicity, w/o councilmembers holding borough-wide hearings, w/o giving us a chance to testify.

Why can't registered voters vote for these changes? It's the 21st century. Why can't people vote online? There are tons of online polls, yet we let these idiots who we re-elect over and over again to make these decisions for us. They dump on Queens because the powers that be know that we won't protest. Time for the revolution.
