Up in arms over Ozone Park motel

Several dozen Ozone Park residents were met with defeat two weeks ago at a Community Board 10 meeting where they were told there is no way to prevent a Comfort Inn motel from moving into the neighborhood.

It’s as of right, board members told them. The three lots on which the motel will be built, at 137-30 Redding St., are zoned C8-1 for commercial use.

Although residents who live further down the block, which is zoned R4 for residential dwellings, accepted the auto body shop that previously occupied the lot, they are against a C8-1 designation that allows the construction of a two-story motel.

Another example of how the delayed downzonings are destroying neighborhoods. Mayor Assberg and his unqualified dispshit cronies must be held accountable for this.

Except that no downzoning of this area was requested.

That's not what the article states.

as compensation, maybe the neighbors can be given freebies from the hotel hookers.

"This situation could have been entirely avoided if the Department of City Planning had rezoned Ozone Park two years ago, when it promised it would, he added."

Go ahead and downzone all you like. The way things are, some developer will contest it and it will get thrown out of court.

The only way to save our communities is for everyone to downzone.

The article may have said a downzoning was requested, but that does not mean the article was correct. My question would be, When was this downzoning requested and by whom was it requested?

OMG. Ozone Park residents. We can't let this happen. Has anyone noticed what the Crossbay Motel as well as the Surfside bring in. These lowlives are prowling around the streets, renting rooms by the hours. I see prostitutes all over. It's disgusting. Mind you, there is a junior high school around the corner. Come on. Someone needs to stop this.
