Pete's "on it"

In the year since the July 17, 2006, failure of one of Con Ed's networks left 174,000 residents of western Queens without electricity for up to nine days, the utility says it has made $90 million in improvements to that network, as well as a $1.4 billion investment in the overall system. The improvements range from the cable replacement in Long Island City to reforms in infrastructure and customer service.

Con Ed efforts get skeptical response

"How can we feel confident at all when everyone responsible for the gross negligence last summer, and the lies last summer, are still in place?" said city Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. (D-Astoria).

You're right, Pete. You, Mike and Eric should resign immediately.

I think the people of Astoria and LIC need their own blog to keep track of Valone's assinine crap. How about AsLICers.blogspot.com?

First two posts can contrast him defending Gallagher and then villifying ConEd all withing one week.

Yeah....Pete & Co. is on it....
on the bowl as usual.... judging by the amount of their PR/BS scapegoating sewage that's FLOATING around Astoria these days making its way rapidly (untreated) towards the East River !

Time for La Famiglia and the rest of the godfathers of the district to resign !

You "capos" haven't been part of the solution so you must be part of the problem !

OVER DEVELOPMENT IS THE PROBLEM !

THE SOLUTION IS TO REIGN IT IN !!!

Doesn't the Vallone Law firm do a lot of work on estates, surrogate court and the like, as well as representing a lot of developers ? !!!

They're making a huge pile of fees judging by the number of all those big expensive display ads running in the weekly newspapers all the time !

I'd hire a shark before I employed this law firm to represent me !

Hey folks, its me, the Con Ed guy again. Peter is right, everything is in place from last summer.

The Greek cafes taking down their walls and supporting the health of their community by pumping air conditioning into the street.

A good deal of our work this summer is not fixing the grid, but trying to cram more and more into the system for new users.

So he is correct. Eveything is ths same as before.

No one who counts in Astoria has learned a damn thing, or even feels the need to. And this will not change as the community doesn't force them.

A blog in Astoria like in other communties tackling important issues like development and quality of life and poltical leadership?

Go to astorians.com and look at a bunch of articulate young educated people that in other communities as for example, in Manhattan and Brooklyn, whom are at the forefront of issues facing their community ... talking about the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin or the lastest restaurant review or whatever. "last poster wins" what fun!

Of course you can go over to licnyc.com or the Queenwest blog and see real estate foamers, groupies and junkies that relate to buildings like popular culture relates to Paris Hilton and American Idol. Real hope from that quarter. All the real estate ads are a nice touch, too.

So much for the myth that new people move into an area to revitilize it.

Hey.....now we've got a massive .....asbestos spewing....steam explosion in Manhattan....and Bloomberg has just admitted this morning (ABC TV News) that it was most likely caused by the aging infrastructure of NYC (in this case ....steam lines installed by Con Ed in about 1925) !

Keep on overbuilding.....over developing....without any safety concerns for residents !

Meanwhile somebody just became a victim.....he was turned into a steamed lobster with burns over 80% of his body ! Someone else died ! The lucky ones were just injured !

No this was NOT the act of a terrorist, just the lack of concern for an aging infrastructure that's being ignored while we're in the midst of our full blown lust for over development !

The NYC real estate/building industry has become more dangerous as a general group.... far more than a single terrorist through their everyday (evident in every corner of our city) general disregard for human conditions !

We don't need to import terrorism......
it exists under our very noses.....overbuilding on top of an aging infrastructure !!!

When all of that Con Edison wet asbestos pipe insulation fiber dries out that was washed down below into the subway tracks, after the mid town steam explosion....

it will become friable.....

and swept through the tunnels of NYC's transit system by the swiftly moving trains and wind up in some of the best (as well as the worst) nabes of our city !

Let's see how NYC DEP is going to fudge the air quality test results.....h-m-m-m !

Maybe you transit workers ought to give your union reps a call !

I'm going to wear a mask until we have a bona fide safety guarantee !

WHY DON'T WE FIX UP WHAT IS HERE BEFORE WE BUILD EVEN MORE?!?!

THE INFRASTRUCTURE, BUILT IN 1900, IS FAR PAST ITS EXPECTED LIFE.

THIS CITY IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN.
