Convention center at Aqueduct?

From the NY Post:

A convention complex could be coming to Queens, right next to the soon-to-open slots casino at Aqueduct Race Track, The Post has learned.

Gaming giant Genting, operator of Resorts World Casino at Aqueduct, is considering building a facility after its casino is completed, sources said.

"They want a convention center to rival Javits," said state Sen. Joe Addabbo (D-Queens), who's been briefed on the proposal.

Genting spokesman Stefan Friedman said, "Resorts World is absolutely interested in undertaking additional projects on the land surrounding Aqueduct -- if the right opportunity exists."

So the convention center won't be at Willets Point? You mean those promised jobs at Willets Point were all bullshit?

Let Gentry expand with their own dime - Home Depot is next door - their landlord will buy them out for a shot at casino credit backing! Why not?

Of course a convention center makes sense at the Big A. While Javits only has the attractions of Manhattan and hundreds of classy hotels, this new site will have...the Big A and its casino. A center there would be a failure, but that's not the point... it's about getting gummint money to build something big, so the Building Trades can rip off the taxpayers. Who cares if it never succeeds?

Makes sense. Aquaduct is the coastal evacuation center for south Queens during a storm surge. Though the East , South, and west sides may be flooded. This would mean acess on Rockaway Blvd only. Remember the New Orleans Convention center during Katrina?

LOL...what a "perfect" place to site a convention center.

Expecting anyone to travel to the outskirts of Queens for what?

And as far as those jobs that were promised for Willets Point's vanished convention center....they were nothing but hand jobs handed out by the Wilpon, Shulman, TDC/Wellington Chen, Stavisky, Ackerman, etc. team....without the customary "happy ending"!

Ugghhh....
even the thought of getting a hand job from "granny" Shulman makes me want to turn in my dick for a refund!

Javits has 814,000 square feet of exhibit space, but the nation's biggest is Chicago's McCormick Place at 2.2 million square feet. People will not come to Javits if you have congestion pricing. Having it near an airport and a waterway makes a lot of sence for bringing in heavy equipment to display. But, of course, you urban vermin would rather party with roaches and rodents than handle heavy equipment.

Other convention centers are in the middle of no where in other cities (not to offend anyone in that neighborhood). If this convention center would be bigger then the javits it could attracted much bigger conventions and therefore many different industries to NYC. However the other barrier to different industries coming is how expensive it is in NY.
