Flushing residents feel nabe is overcrowded

From the NY Times:

Popularity has been a double-edged sword in Flushing, Queens, one of the city’s most diverse neighborhoods. Business owners welcome the droves of people who descend on its downtown sidewalks in search of scarves, massages and melons, as well as ginseng that can run a few hundred dollars an ounce.

But many residents, including some of those busy business owners, say the teeming neighborhood, filled with immigrants from South Korea, China, India and many other places, has become too crowded, according to people interviewed in the days before Tuesday’s election.

“We like the people coming to Flushing for shopping,” said Suzi Ye, 45, a 20-year resident and a manager of Yat Chau USA, a store that sells herbs on Main Street. “But if you live here, a lot of problems. Traffic every day. Too much noise.”

Among the oft-heard complaints: Parking is impossible to find, contributing to the congestion, and a proliferation of street vendors adds to sidewalk gridlock. More housing for working-class and middle-class residents is also cited.

Maybe if we enforced immigration laws for someone other than the hispanic community it would be a tad less crowded.

But w/e the current residents have created a slum. and it wont change anytime soon. Once they've moved onto to despoil greener pastures they will leave a neighborhood of poorly built, hi-residency buildings that will be the next concentrations of poverty, Once low-income communities in the bronx and manhattan get pushed out by gentrification, guess where they will head...

These are complaints that are made every day here on Queens Crap, yet we are labeled as racists and xenophbes when we make them. I guess there is a double standard for the VIBRANT! DIVERSE! crowd.

Is there a psychologist out there who would support the view that all this overcrowding is injurious to your mental well-being? A lawsuit filed or injunction issued on the grounds that all this overpopulation causes mental health problems?

How many residents per square yard does it take to lose your sanity?

I'd prefer people from the bronx who are being pushed out due to gentrification then me being pushed out due to gentrificASIAN.

Well, whaddaya think? Your councilman, that you have elected, let this happen over the years. if he wins the comptroller position, I'll betcha he'll let this happen city-wide. Expect more people on the streets, more people in the subways, and more people in your schools.

Colorful, vibrant and overbuilt!

Get rid of some of those lifers at CB#7 if you want change for the better.

And put Myra Baird Herce on a slow boat to China!

Sounds like some reform is needed: higher parking meter rates, wider sidewalks, dedicated commercial parking and more crackdowns on illegal parking and driving.

if they come to the US and stay, they are breaking the law. then, the illegal aliens start to believe that they are above the law, that it only applies to citizens. all the liberals feel so sorry for illegal aliens but have no sympathy or support for the average American person.

For every American out of work right now, why are so many illegal aliens continuing to prosper?

Traffic enforcement???? Are you freaking kidding me???? Every time some brownie writes a ticket, the recipient comes on here and complains that they were only there for two seconds, they were picking up their dying mother and pregnant sister, and the heartless, brainless traffic agent didn't want to hear it, because he obviously has a quota to fill. People on this site really talk out of both sides of their mouths. Enforce the laws unless I am disobeying them seems to be the motto of the common Queens resident.

You know you're in trouble when the neighborhood becomes too crowded for the Chinese.
