Bloomberg bad, but lame press even worse

From the Daily News:

Here's what you missed while Mayor Bloomberg was running for a third term - because he kept it under wraps until after the ballots were counted:

• The city budget deficit isn't as bad as he said.

• The NYPD was quietly exempted from the budget cuts at almost every other agency.

• A $60 million tax loss that gave Bloomberg a soap box to rail against the state Senate has magically vanished.

But that's all just numbers. What really drives the point home is the photo of Bloomberg and Sarah Palin hanging around in City Hall.

The picture - and six others - was shot Oct. 10, 2007, when the then-governor of Alaska was on a visit to New York.

The photos might have been inconvenient for Bloomberg while he was running against Democrat Bill Thompson in a heavily Democratic city, but they belong to the taxpayers.

The Daily News asked for copies of the photographs July 8. Under the state Freedom of Information Law, Bloomberg's lawyer Anthony Crowell had to respond within five days.

He handed them over two weeks after the election.

No, what's most telling is that the Daily News endorsed Bloomberg and conveniently failed to disclose that this was happening - until 3 weeks after the election - 4 months after they asked for the photos.

Can you say impeachment?

Anonymous said...

The procedure for impeachment, or removal, of local officials varies widely. For instance, in New York a mayor is removed directly by the governor "upon being heard" on charges — the law makes no further specification of what charges are necessary or what the governor must find in order to remove a mayor.

Seems like there is hope. Does our governor have the cajones?

It is ironic that Bloomberg's long term achivements will be

1. unsustainable boom that will leave scores of decaying half empty bankrupt buildings, many almost unlivable on toxic brownfields, supported by an inadequate infrastructure.

2. the hollowing of NY's role as a world-wide media center.

3. a permanent underground political movement focused on undermining the political system - machine and all.

You guys have to get a grip on yourselves. Even with all its present faults New York City is one of the greatest places in the world to live and The United States is too.

Politicians go away, eventually, but the people will endure!

What profound horseshit!

This Commissar, along with the child president, arranged to have the terrorists brought to "one of the greatest places in the world to live ..." to show the world that we are a fair people.

These two monstrosities knowingly placed every soul in this city in worse danger than on September 11.

They made this agreement before the election. Why were they too cowardly to reveal the decision?

This is the very same Commissar who recently invited a terrorist to a meeting in his office to beg the terrorist to not take offense at our expected backlash against the other terrorist at Fort Hood (Nidal Hasan).

What backlash? Even after September 11, no backlash occurred!

The Commissar begs terrorists to be calm?

The ignorant child president travels the world at our expense and bows and scrapes like a plantation house boy to every hater of us and our freedom.

What filth!

Free press? Free press? Who are we kidding? That ship has sailed and sunk a long time ago. When selfish billion dictators/media moguls start buying their way into elected office, we can kiss democracy goodbye!

Methinks you're gripping yourself! We have endured enough already. It's about time that people start to wake up and fight for the scraps that we have left or else it's gonna be:
coulda woulda shoulda

Get it?

Boy, some of the remarks here...

I realize that these sorts of forums allow reactionary crackpots to crawl out from under their rocks but, some of this stuff is depressing.

I like Queens. I realize it is not the center of intellectuality (or f actuality) But it is time for some of you to pack your bags for Geritol land and move on.

Obama is a decent, intelligent man who inherited a fiscal and diplomatic mess from a conservative, incompetent administration.

Turn of the AM radio. Stop reading comic rags such as the Post.

-Your- post was understood but the comments of some of these people are an embarrassment and disgrace.

I guess they would have been more comfortable with McCain and that Alaskan moron in charge.

------------

FWIW: I too see the almost daily revelations of fiscal disaster as typical election year fraud. But somehow these people manage to get things back to parroting those dumb talk shows and bashing Obama.

How interesting. You don't like the commenters and they don't like you. Ever think of going somewhere else fool?

Democrats would have a lot more credibility if, for perhaps a month or two, they could quit the reflexive insults against politicians they do not agree with, while complaining about insults against their own.

Too much to ask for.

Mr Walsh, you can't be serious here. Those of us even slightly to the left have been vilified as "unAmerican" "Commie" "godless" etc, atleast since that scoundrel Nixon and McCarthy in the early 1950's.

If you wonder what has become of the last tenuous remains comity and civility..I suggest you peruse the daily bleatings of Limbaugh-hannity-beck-fox-and whatever that rag that "rev" Moon owns in Washington foists.

Calling little miss "betcha" a moron is not only mild in comparison..but probably accurate.

It Is really pathetic that you would even try to draw a correlation between some a-holes with tee shirts and signs and the daily, centrally organized (RNC) assaults that our current President faces via idiotic talk shows and deceptive print media.

George Bush deliberately lied us into a totally pointless war in Iraq. Mr Walsh, the death toll for Americans is almost 4700 with over 30.000 wounded and maimed. The right wing tries to derail health care reform by citing the ongoing cost but are conveniently silent on what Bush's great adventure in Iraq will have cost when all is finally over.

George Bush is a lying, incompetent scoundrel..history will record him as such. Cartoon characters such a Malkin will be discarded.

Cut/paste the above and you'll find a slew of "Bush bowing" images.

For those who don't travel or ever find themselves in polite company in Asian nations, bowing or other gestures are routinely done by -both parties-. When I am in Bangkok, I wei those that do so to me, it isn't necessary for a foreigner, but I do it for those older than me.

It's called "manners".

re:defeating Saddam Hussein. The U.S.congress voted (including democrats) to give the President authority to attack Iraq, and replace Saddam Hussein.

the President delayed six months, after the W.T.C. was destroyed by operatives from the Middle East. this delay gave Saddam plenty of time to depart. he chose to battle.war is hell.

Saddam 's guns had been firing at our U.S.Airforce planes for a long time prior to the all-out war.

Helping those in need, I don't have an issue with. Helping those who won't help themselves, I do have a problem with. How many times will the American taxpayer be forced to pay for some junkie or alkie's rehab? Most are repeat customers. And I don't mean twice. More like 7 times.

I don't mean the junkies and welfare-for-life losers. I mean people who fall on hard times, i.e. losing a job, getting sick, losing a loved one, etc.. Those are the people I feel sorry for. Millions out there like that. We should help them.

When I taught in Brooklyn, I saw firsthand how welfare negatively impacts people. All they did was sleep, eat and have sex(unprotected of course). No ambition of any kind to get out of the ghetto.

request permission to correct my previous comment.

saddam hussein did not comply with 17 United Nations
resolutions after Desert Storm,in the late1990's. he fired at our planes (an act of war usually).
on july 10,2002,the C.i.A. invasion team joined with
the Kurdish Peshmerga in clearing saddam's troops from
Ansar Al Islam in N.Iraq. you recall that saddam nerve gassed the Kurdish civilians. among other atrocities to Iraq's population.

Oct.2002,the U.S.Senate Joint res. voted to authorize U.S.armed force against Iraq.

after approximately six months delay and Powell's U.N. statement. the Iraq invasion took place in 3/2003.

i believe the Bush administration as well as the congress had good cause to eliminate the saddam despots.the W.M.D's were long gone by the time our troops arrived.
we also smoked out the suicide bomber Al Qaeda terrorists and eliminated most of them. better in Iraq than in n.y.c. streets. see wikipedia, i hope it is not biased.
