Chinese company awarded NYC subway project

From China Daily:

China State Construction Engineering Corp, the largest contractor in China, has bagged a subway ventilation project worth about $100 million in New York's Manhattan area, marking the construction giant's third order in the United States' infrastructure space this year.

The contract was given to China Construction American Co, a subsidiary, the Wall Street Journal quoted a source as saying.

"The new project, along with the $410-million Hamilton Bridge project and a $1.7-billion entertainment project it won earlier this year, signals China State Construction's ambition to tap the American construction market," said Li Zhirui, an industry analyst at First Capital Securities.

Li, however, said the order came as no surprise as the US government is spending massively on infrastructure projects.

The three orders only account for about 4 percent of the value of its total orders this year, Li added.

In the first three quarters of this year, the Chinese construction giant signed more than $2 billion worth of contracts in the US market. China State Construction was also the contractor for a high school, a railway station and the Chinese embassy in the US.

Must be the payback for billions if not trillions borrowed for the Iraq war since 2002. Probably not even though those contracts belong to U.S. companies obviously.

What does Ackerman and Liu have to do with this???

Unemployment at 10.2 nationwide, 10.3 in NYC, almost guaranteed to rise when numbers come out on Friday.

Yet, the Messiah and the Commissar see fit to send $100 million tax dollars (for starters - wait for the cost overrun announcements) overseas.

Didn't the Messiah campaign on "no more outsourcing?" Sorry. Lying in a campaign is not just legal; it is required.

No company in the US bid on this work?

How do you plan to register your opposition?

Don't we have American Co to award contracts for construction projects in the US?

What's wrong with this story?

We do, but we use union labor, so the bids all came in double what china quoted, i'm sure.

See, we yell and scream that the government spends too much money, and should therefore take the lowest bidder whenever possible. This almost always rules out an American.

Can't have your cake and eat it too!

Hasn't anyone noticed that Americans are hurting for jobs? It's time for the government to fine all these companies that are sending our jobs overseas. Do you mean to tell me that there are no American Companies that could fulfill this contract? This is disgusting.

Yes, they are. but they want 25-hour work weeks. 2 hour lunches. 3x OT pay starting on minute 1. 100% health coverage for life. lifetime pension after only 20 years on the job. Oh, and if you ask about criminal history, education, ethnic background, thats gonna be a lawsuit, buddy.

When the salary+benefits cost to hire a guy to swing a hammer reaches over 6 figures a year, you tend to look for ways to cut costs. The only solution to hire overseas.

Liu is behind this probably. All our stimulus money heading overseas. What fucking corruption when this job should have gone to a NYC company or at least American company.

Brought to you by the same people who gave us toxic drywall and melamine in the food supply.

Costs so little, and worth every penny.

People are out of work. Americans would work for less if everything here cost less. By sending all these jobs overseas, it hikes up all our taxes and costs. In the long run, Americans would work for less, but since prices on everything keep rising, of course they look for higher paying jobs.

This is that Glen Beck fan isnt it. Can you explain what your trying to connect?
Who gave the Dubai NYC port contracts out in 2006?
Wasnt that the Bush administration with
Deputy Treasury Secretary Robert M Kimmitt.

Actually, it was Bill Clinton and Bob Dole who pushed for the port deal.

And he said the stimulus money was going toward all of those things. It may not be factually correct, but it was clear what he meant.

Glad I ride the LIRR.

I wouldn't trust the subway system now.

Uhhh...you moms out there....FYI:

Next time you pick up one of those little apple juice boxes for your child to drink at "Mc Donalds"...
please read the label carefully.

Made from concentrates from yadda, yadda, yadda...and CHINA.

As American as apple pie...eh?
Apple juice is MADE IN CHINA TOO!

"Apple & Eve" brand of juice also contains Chinese frozen concentrates!

Next stop..."UNI WORLD"...the "global village" that was predicted decades ago!

Let Disney run it, at least, so we'll get a guaranteed level of boring quality.

And John Liu orchestrated the whole deal from the backrooms of F-Liu-xhing!

In return he got the job of NYC comptroller!

Now he'll be able to grease the wheels for some more of these kind of deals much more quickly.

I'd like to chat with anyone who has details on the subway ventilation project. Hats off to QueensCrap for blogging it.
