Stein Mart, Amish Market leaving Atlas Park?

From the Queens Tribune:

The Receiver is trying to evict the high-end Amish Market from its site. The site currently occupied by Stein Mart, once-touted as the anchor for the mall, is now available for immediate lease – as a supermarket.

Stein Mart spokeswoman Susan Edelman maintains that Stein Mart is under contract. “We have a multi-year lease that began in April 2006 and goes for quite some time,” she said Tuesday.

On Wednesday, however, at a breakfast for brokers, commercial broker Capstone Realty distributed packages showing the sites at Atlas currently available. One page in the packet pitches the 32,534-square-foot Stein Mart site as “available immediately.”

“The community of Glendale is crying out for a supermarket to move into their neighborhood, and we have just the location for you,” the prepared materials read.

One prospective tenant, Western Beef, has already turned down Atlas Park over parking access.

Not surprised - a supermarket tenant is a smart choice as AP needs repeat visitors and a supermarket provides for that - but as the artical says parking at AP is difficult and certainly not enough to convieniently support a mall and a supermarket. As far as Steinmart is concerned, I know of no one who goes there or is even interested to do so. Amish Market is ill concieved, totally wrong for the neighborhood. One choice to go in there is Fairway which has high quality foods - but also requires decent parking and loading space to be successful.

AAAAAAAA, NO we do NOT! Check things out, rumor has it that Woodhaven Lanes is going to be a supermarket. We do have Stop & Shop. 2 are in glendale!!! Myrtle Ave. & Union Tpke. They should have taken Trader Joe's, now that is a draw. Always a full ,FREE, parking lot. How about Ann Taylor Loft, Bannnnna Republic, Bath & Bodyworks, OH WAIT, those are stores that people have been asking for, why put them in there!?

As I have always said, in Brooklyn or Manhattan, a bodega can become a Zabars.

In Queens, a Zabars will become a bodega.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE ABOVE GROUND PARKING THAT THEY SPOKE ABOUT? Not that big garage in the front, now that was a bad move!

Give is 20 years.

The spot will be a Pioneer Supermarket and the surrounding area will be retro-fitted to a teaming stucco-clad barricks.

Will make the Mattone$ plenty of buck$ and the newspapers will be touting the opening of the 2nd branch of an Elmhurst restaurant with mystery meat on the menu.

The Amish Market is great. People in Glendale and Middle Village really don't want to shop there? That is sad.

Anon #2 - you can't "put in" what you want - you would have to convince Trader Joes, an Taylor Loft etc that they want to be there, and THEY have to put them in - how much you want to bet that they are not interested in being there?

Of course they don't want to be there. It was a stupid place to build a mall.

I really hope the Amish Market stays. They have great selection of hard to find items.

And fortunately, there arent many roving gangs of "undesirables" like they have over in Queens Mall.

The only thing i dislike is the movie theater, as every teenybopper in the area is attracted to that thing like flies to shit. Unfortunately, its a necessary evil, as im sure it brings in a lot of coin.

Whole Foods, that's all i'll say.

The Amish Market is a nice store , there are a few locations in the city . I wouldn't call it HIGH END. Western Beef however is a rancid store and would only cause problems.

Dream on people

The clubhouse house's marketing has assured that the image of Queens is third world.

You can thank Terri Osborne and boro hall for that.

You will get quality when Astoria gets a Barnes and Noble.

They might want one, but all they get are hookah places.

"And fortunately, there arent many roving gangs of "undesirables" like they have over in Queens Mall."

I hope this was sarcasm. You haven't been at Atlas at Night or the 80th street Bridge. Nothing but rowdy noisy displaced "Youths".
Steinmart isn't a suitable place for a retail food store. There's a NYC local law which prohibits food storage in supermarkets below grade i.e. basements or cellers.

The Amish Market and Stein Mart are the two stores I frequent the most at Atlas. Putting a Supermarket there is a stupid idea.

If i could have what I wish for it would be Trader Joes. Also there is a great household store there but no one know that it's there.

Atlas Park is a beautiful Mall but no one seems to know how to run it or market it.

A supermarket should be easily accessible. The Steinmart location is anything BUT. The parking at AP is a nightmare. HATE it.

Now Woodhaven Lanes turned into a supermarket? Be still my heart! When Key Foods closed on Metro, that stunk on ice. Thank god we got TJ's a few years later. But a big new supermarket that people could walk to would be super. Stop & Shop is good but a pain to walk to and a pain to drive to. What is with that location????

YUP, rumor has it that WHOLE FOODS is going where Woodhaven Lanes was.

Forget multiple tenants or any monopoly game set of stores our minds could come up with. Make it a single store site: Ikea. Could be done.

you people have got to be kidding, why would you not want teenagers in the mall. That is a good place for them to be and the lasrt time i checked they are the ones who spend all of their parents money at malls. Maybe it would be spent at atlas if they had suitable stores for them to shop in like an
abercrombie instead of ROC. This neighborhood does not wear $175 jeans, especialy on 6-8 year olds or ferrari shirts for toddlers. The mall needs to get with the program.
They need to look at the area and see where we shop, we should not have to go to Roosevelt field with an empty mall down the block.

Regarding the idea of supermarkets at atlas park. It would be ideal if Shoprite could open there. Shoprite always has a fine selection and decent prices, quite unlike Stop and Shop, or stop and ripoff - as someone told me.

Putting a supermarket in Atlas Park will be a nightmare - traffic on Cooper and 80th is already a mess. I shop at Steinmart and the lines are always crowded when I'm there. no need to change it. The Amish market is nice but the prices are a bit much for this economy.
