No show council members

From the NY Post:

Reacting to an attendance report in yesterday's Post, Councilman Tony Avella (D-Queens), a long-shot candidate for mayor, said members make up lame excuses to avoid coming to mandatory meetings in City Hall.

"Could it be that some of my colleagues are lazy?" he said. "I don't know what their excuses are, but in my opinion, there's no excuse. It's your job."

Let's pass a law to remove council members with excessive absences. Oh wait, the same ones who abuse the system would have to pass it.

Christine Quinn should resign as the majority of City Council members either do not show up, they and their aides are stealing tax payers money literally, they are hiring their relatives and or giving big pieces of pork to organizations that their family members are on including Quinn w/ her partner.
NYC Council is the only city council that can have a lousy attendance record, vote themselves a raise, way too many have been systematically helping themselves to tax payer money and it is all a conflict of interest, corrupt. Can we arrest or fire the conflict of interest board as well. This corrupt city council denied us a referendum and voted themselves to stay on so they could continue to have a lousy attendance record and rob tax payers.

The votes on term limits by this tainted City Council need to be tossed out.

Tony Avella shines as a voice of honesty and integrity and I want him for mayor because of the corruption at City Hall from city council to the pension fund scandals that have been exposed but seem forgotten.

There are links all down the side of bloomberg newzzz including the pension fund scandal.

I wish we could have a ticker counter on display 24 hours 7 days a week at city hall and albany and on the internet, our websites exposing how much Albany clowns posings as public servants and corruption at city hall is costing the tax payers.

Why did Quinn endorse her???

These are the same people that vote themselves a big fat raise, then increase taxes to transfer wealth away from their constiuents into the pockets of developers.

Crappy, is it possible to get a breakdown of the details on thier line item designees.

We have a councilman who has $100,000s of dollars but the various groups in his district get a pittance - if they get anything.

And Gennaro will no doubt run for State Senate again based on his "impressive" record of achievement as a councilmember.

Biggest problem is not their no-shows, but the fact that they are all from one party. Without the other party, or an honest media, to hold their feet to the fire this will just keep happening.

I'm surprised attendance was this good

The "no shows" may not have good attendance records but they were there for the vote on term limits. Hmmmm..................

Suzannah got it right when she said, "The votes on term limits by this tainted City Council need to be tossed out."

Suzannah,

You had me up 'til "Tony Avella shines as a voice of honesty and integrity."

Give me an f'ing break. He's no better and no different. Tony has been parading around for his entire tenure as the anti-mcmansion champ. But parading is all he has done! He attached himself to the overdevelopment issue and gained a little following. But the FACT is that he has not done a thing to stop overdevelopment. Just talk talk talk, cameras, whine, talk.

He is the Zoning Chair for god sakes and can't even get anything through his own committee. Please, tell me what legislation of his has had any impact on the City of New York?

Tony is a sycophant at best. He's a toady who can't play nice with his peers, and as a result his entire district suffered for 8 years.

That's leadership? Other than what he "stands for", PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE HELL HE HAS DONE???

So sick of this... your ignorance will only help Bloomberg remain in his spot.

Govenment needs a complete overhaul.

Vote them all out!

I'd tap that.

Who votes for these ugly pols?

It sounds like some Evan/Parside candidate Avella basher is off his meds again!

Sounds like it might even be originating from western Queens.

Ass-toria maybe?

Under the current law...isn't being in the city council only a part time job anyway?

Not bad earning a fat salary plus all the payola you can grab without having to put in a full day's work.

Suggested amendment to the city charter:

An 8 hour a day work week is required for all members.

Crapmaster,

That "I'd tap that" comment was not from me. Just a ECD wannabe.

Looks like the Crapster is being paTROLLed again! Why shouldn't he be getting a hard time by the hypocrites he has to deal with? However, how can you say it is his fault that his district is being decimated by overdevelopment being promoted by the NYC EDC & CB7? As far as other issues, people turn to Avella's office for assistance even if they do not live in his district and I know that firsthand! I live a few yards away from the borderline of council districts and my Councilman is John Liu. Enough said??!?!

Sorry, I admit it, I really did say that.

Better cut down on the Cialis.

Yay Suzanna! You go girl!
Tony Avella is the voice of integrity in government and if he has not been able to do as much as he would have liked - look st the low lifes he has to work with. Pulleez. Christine Quinn/Mike Jr. hates his guts and would take a hit out on him if she could. And as for the trollster in the crapster - it is probably one of the disgruntled carriage drivers who hate Tony.

Tony Avella for mayor! Bring integrity to government at last!

Hey - If John Liu is elected Comptroller - want to take bets on how long before they take him out in hand cuffs. Talk about unethical.

I am so glad I voted for Padavan over Gennaro.

MYTH
Give me an f'ing break. He's no better and no different.

REALITY
Than what - a whinny kid like you?

MYTH
Tony has been parading around for his entire tenure as the anti-mcmansion champ. But parading is all he has done! He attached himself to the overdevelopment issue and gained a little following.

REALITY
He is routinely called to lecture at events and has a citywide following - look for example how many times he has spoken at Historic Districts Council.

And the last time Melinda or Toby were invited to talk in front of adults?

MYTH
But the FACT is that he has not done a thing to stop overdevelopment. Just talk talk talk, cameras, whine, talk.

REALITY
Sure, the press has froze him out as well as city council - his offence, not to play along but to put his community first - a dangerous thing when they are out there to make money.

MYTH
He is the Zoning Chair for god sakes and can't even get anything through his own committee. Please, tell me what legislation of his has had any impact on the City of New York?

REALITY
That is because the machine controls the agenda and runs this city pretty much the same ghastly fashion since the time of Dickens. It is about time that the greatest city in the world stop being run like a playground where a clique of second graders make the rules and call the shots.

MYTH
Tony is a sycophant at best. He's a toady who can't play nice with his peers, and as a result his entire district suffered for 8 years.

REALITY
Sure and not benefit like Elmhurst, or Corona, or LIC, or Astoria, or Dutch Kills or Jamaica - see what happens when your rep 'knows how to play along'?

Those are not places that are suffering - at least by the only people that clubhouse things important - themselves and developers.

If I'm not mistaken didn't Avella vote in favor of renaming a street in Bed-Stuy for the racist anti-Semite Sonny Carson?

This is true but sometimes you have to play nice in the sandbox in order to get what your community needs. This freeze out is actually detrimental to his constituents and his territory. The city machine is the majority right now. If he keeps rubbing them the wrong way he won't get shit for his community.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. It was the same way when the Republicans ran Nassau County for decades.

NOT TRUE - TAKE A LOOK AT KATZ OR QUINN OR VALLONE - PLENTY OF MONEY GIVEN TO DEVELOPERS AND TOWER PEOPLE AND TWEEDER PROGRAMS AND DAMN LITTLE TO REVERSE FALLING QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE REST OF THEIR COMMUNITIES.

OR MAYBE THAT IS THAT THE MACHINE THINGS THEY 'NEED', MORE DEVELOPMENT.

This freeze out is actually detrimental to his constituents and his territory.

NOT IF IT DELAYS DEVELOPMENT AND TWEEDER PROGRAMS BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW IN THE ALICE IN WONDERLAND WORLD OF NYC POLITICS THAT IS WHAT THE PEOPLE NEED.

The city machine is the majority right now.

THE CITY MACHINE IS IN COMPLETE CONTROL.

If he keeps rubbing them the wrong way he won't get shit for his community.

THATS NICE - DENY THE COMMUNITY WHAT THEY WANT IN BASIC SERVICES BECAUSE THEIR REP WILL NOT GO ALONG WITH THE 2 BIT CROOKS RUNNING THINGS.

Bottom line most any politician is out for self and their own agenda. It's not a public service job anymore it's a "self service job"!!!!!

Ever notice that whenever Avella is mentioned, the term "long-shot candidate for Mayor," is not far behind?
