That's some expensive junk!

From the Daily News:

One man's trash turned into Nick DiMola's treasure.

Five years after the Queens rubbish remover took home a mysterious barrel from a SoHo apartment, he opened it to find dozens of ancient Mexican artifacts.

The mix of bowls, figurines and jugs were made between 300 B.C. and 500 A.D., some by Mayans.

They're worth an estimated $16,500 - and DiMola said he's not at all surprised.

"There's always something in the garbage worth money," he said.

DiMola, 39, came to own the booty when his Ridgewood company was hired to clear the cluttered space of abstract artist Clinton Hill, who died in 2003.

Its a growing trend of 3rd world Voodoo.
Those figures likely represent murdered or some kind of shield against people surfacing.
The Daily News is clueless

I have a friend “on the job” in Queens
When they bust certain groups for drugs they find handcuffs in sealed barrels, in bed pans with drops of animal and birds blood.
Like the Daily News he’s told "not to talk about it" or specifically name the certain groups because its offensive and might upset them.

My friend on the job is pretty disgusted with all the new B.S. mandated by the Police Commissioner and Mayor.

Have no idea what the hell you're talking about. I've collected Folk Art all my life. Are you saying I'm a drug dealer or that I practice Voodoo?

I don't think this is Voodoo related Joe.
They are Mayan artifacts worth a lot that should be in a museum.

Joe, if you find such devilish artifacts send them to me. I have a special Roman Catholic ritual that includes a quick trip to Sothebys or Christies followed by the ritual deposit of a check into a bank account. Removes the curse every time.

As momma used to say, "If money is the root of all evil, give me more of that root."

Joe probably thinks Bobble Heads are evil Gods also.

It seems to me that these artifacts may have been taken out of their country of origin illegally in the first place. Now that is evil don’t you think?
