The makeshift weapons of crafty criminals

From Newsday:

The New York Police Department has found an unintended use for the T-Mobile Sidekick and other hand-held devices - a razor blade can be secreted in their battery compartments, police sources say.

At the same, sources say, officers have been alerted to a recent Harlem arrest in which a cell phone recovered from a suspect had been converted into a stun gun. And officers guarding prisoners in hospitals have been told that meal trays have a vanity mirror that can easily be fashioned into a makeshift shiv.

those crafty criminals

That comes as no surprise.

Hell...in prison an inmate can hide a "shank or shiv" (properly capped for safety) pushed up his butt.

In the local parlance...your caboose is known as your "suitcase".

It's used for transporting all kinds of contraband.

Saw this all on network TV!

When I was in high school, a certain vicious gang of girls called "The Golden Girls" were known for carving "GG" on their victims with razors.

According to legend, they hid their weapons in their genatalia to avoid being raped.

I don't think Bea Arthur had to worry about that!

Overheard at Rikers: "Dude, your knife smells like shit"

Another Riker's scenario:

Right before a revenge gang rape the victim asks, "Let me get my knife out of my ass before all of us get hurt"

The Bronx Golden Girls existed many years before the television show was written. The name is coincidental.

I never heard of the golden shower girls

You're lucky you never ran across these Golden Girls, plenty of Bronx people were not so lucky, and they had nothing to joke about. Girl gangs today are just as dangerous. Ask anyone who has run afoul of one.

You can conceal a blade behind the right kind of belt buckle.

They were even selling pens in Chinatown that when uncapped and inserted into their handles contained a 4" knife.

Those would have passed detection when dropped into one of those checkpoint baskets along with your keys etc.

If you remember TV's Mac Giver...he could improvise a weapon from almost anything available.

That's true. And today's kids know how to make draino bombs and homemade flame-throwers. You would think they were trying out for Special Forces.

One good weapon my father, a former RAF commando, told me about is to take an ordinary newspaper, roll it up tight and then fold it in half. The perfect impromptu club for women followed by the Fresh Meadows rapist.
