Sunnyside still waiting for the sun to shine

From NY1:

The business improvement district of Sunnyside, Queens wants to build up the overlooked neighborhood to make it an attraction for New Yorkers.

It's been the same story in Sunnyside for the past 2 decades. And your elected representatives are busy fixing up ugly 1980s street furniture and worrying about Darfur instead of taking care of the neighborhood. And I hate to break it to you, but the next batch of tweeders coming down the pike doesn't look any more promising, either...

The best thing for Sunnyside is that it stays under the radar. Look what happened to Astoria. There is a saying in Japanese, "The tallest grass gets cut."

Actually it's..."The nail that sticks up gets hammered down"!

As the wave of over development washes eastward across Queens...Sunnyside will be the next nabe, as the crow flies, to be swallowed up (except for the Gardens).

You can't hold back the tide no matter how tall you build the levees.

I give Sunnyside about 10 more years 'til it's permanently in the shade.

And Astoria? It's already gone except where Vallone Sr. and D'Amico live!

That's protected and will probably be down zoned shortly.

Sadly, that sounds about right.

Over development is following the #7 line eastward.

sunnyside needs it. i say put street vendors on skillman, retime the lights on queens blvd, and turn the warehouse district between 39th and 33rd into an arts area.

Its sooo funny, but its sooo true. Everything is being changed except for that little bitty corner where the hacks live.

The headless chickens at LICA have not even noticed it.

Losers.

Naw, they are too busy thinking they are taking the first step in politics, getting in pictures with the 'bhoys' and taking up their causes, well hell, there is hardly any time to do anything useful.

46th Street & Greenpoint Ave. - a haven for Irish, Mexican illegals. Homegeny is looking at burka clad women following their men. The rich diversity of 99cent and ABC stores says it all!
