OT costs way over budget

From NY1:

The city is on track to spend more than a billion dollars on overtime this year, according to a new report by City Comptroller Bill Thompson.

Thompson says overtime pay for police, firefighters and civilian workers is about $140 million over what the city budgeted for overtime costs this year.

This is why the cops are pulling people in for petty bullsh*t at the end of their shifts.

Busting and Processing a businessman drinking a beer a foot over the waiting zone in Penn Station is HOURS processing overtime

This speaks to Bumbleberg's much-touted (much self-touted) skills as an executive. Instead of going after one folly after another--Olympics, West Side Satdium, stupid TVs in taxis--he is first and foremost the head of his agencies; he is supposed to run them, and he must be held accountable. That is business. This mayor clearly is failing; he is, clearly, over budget. In business he would be quickly shown the door, quickly forgotten. This is a Wizard of Oz mayor. Look behind the curtain!

Well, if the city isn't going to pay for new cops, they are going to have to pay the existing force overtime to fill in the vacant slots. Someone has to do the work.

Don't forget that pale-skinned stick in the mud.

Problem is that the "work" is beneficial to the state and not the people. we need to cut overtime and lay off some police officer. we are overpoliced in fact.

Hire more recruits for the 140 million, reduce the OT otherwise.

They need the overtime to pay for all these stupid ethnic parades every fckn weekend.Oh and don't forget all the protests......would you like those cancelled to save overtime? i didn't think so.

No, I would like to see less of them posted outside Mets and Yankees games. Let their security deal with the drunks on the plazas instead.

Why did we have more OT if we had less crime?

O that IS a good question.

Also why are they shutting firehouses? Because Bloomie can never say no to Ray Kelly, and, on the other hand the fire commish always says yes to Bloomie.

Im sure a big hunk of that goes to Cops and Firefighters nearing the end of their careers.

It must be nice to have a job where you put in 80 hours a week for just one year, and walk away with a 6-figure pension.

The only problem is that they don't make shit for the first 19 years of their careers. Yeah, that must be REALLY nice!
