From the Times Ledger:
State Sen. Frank Padavan (R−Bellerose) said the city Parks Department is planning to coordinate with the NYPD and FDNY to provide some sort of security at Bayside’s Fort Totten following the FDNY’s recent decision to terminate its private security services at the park.
Padavan, who joined more than 40 northeast Queens residents outside the fort earlier this month to protest the lapse in security, sent a letter to Mayor Michael Bloomberg to express his concern that the historic park could be vulnerable to vandalism, arson or graffiti if security is not provided at the site.
He said Queens Park Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski assured him that the department would schedule meetings with the FDNY and NYPD to collaborate on some form of security at the fort.

I said it before and I will say it again, the security at Ft Totten was never did a good job in the first place. You could have a put a scarecrow in the booth and it would have done a better job.
Not a single person in northeast Queens cares about Fort Totten other than those 20 old biddies who sit up there and have drinks with Padavan.
Padavan, that phony draft dodging fake who never served this country but joined the "weekend warriors" at the age of 45.
And where is that punk Padavan stationed ? Oh yeah, Fort Totten. Padavan wants to divert money from our schools so he and twenty people could play cards at the "Officers Club" at Fort Totten.
This guy Padavan is so out of touch. Fort Totten ????? Who cares. You think people want police to be shifted to a park that has hundreds of firemen and cops already in it ?
Oh yeah, that punk Padavan wants to have the guard salute him as he drives up to the "Officers Club". Thats what its all about.
Count your days Padavan. They are lining up to take you out next round.
I see Padavan kissing Avella's ass trying to get him to attack Gennaro. Little does Padavan know Avella has already put into motion a 2010 race against him. Go Tony !!!
Thank you to Crappy for exposing Padavan.
This is why a guy who represents less than 1% of Padavans district came within 400 votes of taking him out. Frank, wake up ! Nobody cares about the Bayside Historical Society and the Fort Totten drunkards club. They are all getting defunded anyway and will ALL turn on you.
Thanks Crappy.
There will always be undeducated users who don't see the value of historical sites. They seem to be infecting this thread.
