Former Representative Rick Lazio, a Long Island Republican who rose to prominence by challenging Hillary Rodham Clinton in her first Senate race, is exploring the possibility of running for governor next year.
In recent weeks, Mr. Lazio, who retired from Congress in 2000, has had conversations with Republican elected officials, party leaders and fund-raisers to discuss the pros and cons of a possible candidacy, according to three people he has consulted about the race.
Lazio Said to Mull Run for Governor

Well, that will worry the hell out of the Democrats.
Why run for Governor? Demand the senator job as little Caroline does. Surely why spend money on another office when this lobbying for the position require little money and no election - Congressional experience? A shoo-in compared to Caroline's entitlement stance. Wrong party huh., I forgot about that - it's not about the correct qualifying elements that you have, it's who in the back room your in bed with.

True. Lazio did so well the last time that he ran for office.
Yeah because the morons of NY State were mesmerized by Hillary Clinton who used them as a steppingstone to run for President. And we all know how well that went for her. Now she's having tea parties with foreign leaders instead of making important decisions. And she's still stuck with Bill.
I don't understand the whole attitude that he couldn't be a serious candidate because he lost to Hillary. I mean give me a break. She was a political superstar and it doesn't look like we have that lining up to run on the Democratic ticket in 2010.
Rudy!RuDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!RUDY!
I'd rather have Lazio than Rudy the RAt. He made millions off the death of all those who perished in the Trade Center. He 's done. Plus he'd rather make more cash at speaking about 9/11 than having to hold an office and be accountable.
Although I don't think the republican's will back Lazio,
There are plenty of other Rep's looking to run also, other's with more cash.
Lazio is lame.
Maybe Maltese can run for Guv, huh?
That would be great but didnt he lose to hillary??

The point is that she wasn't a political superstar eight years ago. People were saying the same things about her that are being said now about Caroline Kennedy. In 2000, she had Lazio for an opponent, who ran a thoroughly insipid and uninspiring campaign against her. Not only did he get flattened in the election, but the Republicans lost his seat in Congress, to boot. Lazio's basic point was "I'm not Hillary". He was, but so what?
The Republicans aren't going anyplace until they come up with better candidates who have something to say.

WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY?
Joe Biden was right. A RUDY! sentence consists of three things: A noun, a verb and 9/11.
Maybe this time he can explain Bernard Kerik to us.
The Elephants' bench is thin. Fossella? A disgraced cheater. Lazio? He already lost big. Rudy? He proved unelectable in the primaries, garnering one delegate. Maybe we can trade somebody for Bobby Jindal. The press will savage any Republican right now (see: Palin, Sarah)

I'm sorry, comparing Hillary Clinton to Caroline Kennedy is just not a good comparison. Clinton worked side by side with her husband in the White House, worked on some of his policy, and NY state to this day is ga-ga over anything Clinton. Kennedy no one knows and um, you know, she really, like, would like to run and you know, gosh why don't you just give her a chance?
And losing the first time around doesn't mean you can't come back and win the next time. Just like Rudy.
