Conventional thinking

A Queens convention center would not have to contend with the congestion and rapid business development that Javits now confronts on the West Side of Manhattan. And unlike the Sunnyside Rail Yards in Queens — another large undeveloped location that could house a convention center — Willets Point would be free of complicated issues surrounding air rights development and platform construction that is required when building over the rail yards.

Javits Expansion May Decamp to Queens

Hey, you don't think we have congestion and rapid business development here? Perhaps you also missed the previous article that says the city has no money for these big projects. I like how eminent domain and extensive environmental remediation are not even considered to be complicated issues anymore, either.

Grandma Shulman wants desperately
to hold onto her job as madam/director I see.....

Please dont look a gift horse in the mouth.
Queens needs all the help it can get when it comes to economic development.

they will do anything to destroy those auto repair jobs. It has become an obsession.

You obviously meant
OVER DEVELOPMENT didn't you
(unless you were jibing us...ha, ha, ....
with your "economic development" reference) ?

How about a waterfront park at Willets Point
if you insist on kicking out
the existing businesses there?

auto repair?.......... you mean chop shops dont you?

Sounds like a plan B setup by Bloomberg, since Javits plan in Manhattan is scaled back and stalled. There is no imagination on the part of our POlS to get deals done at the original costs. So they resort to the cheap ED method of placing the Javits center in Willet's point. There, the battleground lines will be drawn that will drag the project in a suspended state for the next 20 years. Where is Rep. Silver on this, hiding? Does he not want to expand out Javits in a way that will be large enough or have strenght to go against Spitzer's grain?

To - "OVER DEVLOPMENT"

Have you not noticed that Queens has very little industry?

How many people do you know that actually work in Queens?

There are no jobs here. Queens needs all the help it can get when it comes to econmic development.

As for the businesses in Willets Point, the majority of employees there are illegal immigrants, and if those are what you consider good businesses, Queens really IS in a sorry state.

"Have you not noticed that Queens has very little industry?"

No, I haven't noticed that. Have you been to Maspeth, Sunnyside, Jamaica?

"How many people do you know that actually work in Queens?"

Quite a few, actually.

"There are no jobs here. Queens needs all the help it can get when it comes to econmic development."

Maybe if we didn't convert industrial properties into condos, we'd have more industry here. And what they want to do at Willets will replace industrial jobs that you claim are scarce with tourism jobs. What occupations are Queens people more likely to work in? Tourism or industry?

"Have you not noticed"....
that practically the whole of NYC
has very little industry!

It's all been "OUTSOURCED".

AND WE DON'T MANUFACTURE
MUCH OF ANYTHING IN THE U.S.A. ANYMORE EITHER!

Our national "rust belt" is growing rapidly
and extending even into our urban centers!

Wasn't it Donald Manes who once said,
"Queens has nothing but real estate
and I intend to develop every bit of it" ?

"The Donny"
may be now pushing up Daisies
but his plan is alive
and our political/real estate partnership
is pushing it in our faces!

The point that everyone keeps ignoring is the fact that many of the so-called business' in Willets Point commit illegal activities.
The most common practice in Willets Point is that when you bring your car in for repairs or body work, the illegal immigrents that will be working on your car go out that night and steal the same make and model, harvest the parts and then charge you for the parts and installation.
Willets Point chop shops that employ illegal immigrents or a convention center? hmmmmmm.....let me think about that one.

No that's not the point. The major landowners there are legitimate businesses. The city should crack down on the chop shops if they are committing illegal acts, but they have chosen not to. Instead they are taking people's land.

These so called businesses, how do they help the community? They instigate crimes to be commited, they employ illegal immigrants instead of american citizens and they have not attempted to improve their own neighborhood once, ever.
Only now do they proclaim to be outstanding citizens of the community.
Have they ever donated one dollar to help a surrounding community group? never.
These are gangsters, and shady business people with just a sprinkle of legitimate businesses and I feel bad for the legitimate few, I really do, but you are the company you keep.
