Dopey lock fetish comes to Bayside

I'm not even going to pretend I understand the point of this.

Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.

some kind of gang crap like graffiti, a message that you can buy drugs there or some crime will go down.

Paris bridges love locks

Doubtful it's gang-related, it's just stupid. I suppose since we destroyed all the good initial-carving trees, we must resort to this now to express neverending love.

This must be the new version of throwing the old sneakers over the telephone wires. At least that took some talent.

"Dopey lock fetish" is the appropriate title.

Bell Blvd. is "bar boulevard".
Eat drink and leave a lock . Then go back home to Nassau with your date and f--k.

Don't knock it. It's art, and better. Than that pink sculpture in LIC. LOL! That about locks it's purpose down.

It used to Bev a pair of sneakers hanging off of wires or tree branches. Kilroy was here!

Maybe some enterprising locksmith placed them here.
What do they charge to open up locks these days?
Maybe that's cheaper than replacing the chain link fence.

So Bayside has become the new Paris where lovers (?????) leave a souvenir of their bonding on bridges?
Welcome to "Bayside Village" reads the Yuletide holiday lighted arch each year. What does the BID think?

Bayside is a boring place full of Friday night drunks.
This little mystery adds some color to a bourgeois hamlet.

It's so called "Love locks" Originally goes back about 100 years to Serbia, but where it became real big is the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris, and idiots think it's romantic. You and your sweetie are supposed to use a KEY lock, lock it to the bridge, and throw the keys in the river, locking your "hearts together"
The one in Paris has caused all sorts of problems with the bridge

This isn't just a Queens problem. The Brooklyn Bridge has its share as well:

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/brooklyn/city-love-struck-visitors-stop-attaching-locks-brooklyn-bridge-article-1.1807559

It's not a gang thing. It's like people who carve their initials into trees. Just dumb. Since there are so many people willing to do this, maybe the City should put up an actual wall and let people pay a nominal fee to put their locks on.

It doesn't exactly beautify the bridge, but c'mon, it's a pretty harmless thing. We need more love, not less. Let em lock.

it's stupid, and that fence is going to fall off from the weight of those locks with a hard wind. And it's been windy a lot lately.

Two words: scrap metal.

Anything that "beautifies" a crummy chain link fence is welcome by me!

Mon ami! Beautiful, boring, Bayside now has a touch of the...shall we say...avante guarde?
Most of those love locks will last longer than the relationships.

An article about French couples doing this on some bridge in Paris, appeared a few months ago. Was only a matter of time before this eurotrash craze hit NYC.

This dumb crap ain't art or romantic. A pair of bolt cutters will clear up this mess.

Sure it's romantic, you're being narrow-minded.

And score for the poster that called me a lock sucker - good one!
