Will it actually happen this time?

From the Queens Courier:

Sunnyside and Woodside residents and commuters will soon be able to walk under the No. 7 train without having to dodge pigeon poop.

After hearing concerns from residents, Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer announced he has allocated $250,000 in funding to install “state-of-the-art pigeon mitigation systems” along the No. 7 line at 46th Street-Bliss in Sunnyside, 52nd Street-Lincoln Avenue in Woodside and 61st Street-Woodside.

“Pigeon poop isn’t a joke,” said Van Bramer. “It is something that is terribly disgusting. It makes our neighborhood look unattractive and it is also a health hazard.”

The new alleviation systems, which will take three months to be fully installed, will include the addition of thin wiring and netting in nearby areas to the subway entrances, and installment of nylon spikes and angled edges on the ledges. New ultrasonic devices will also be installed releasing hawks’ and other predatory birds’ sounds that keep pigeons away but are silent to humans.

Hey, did anyone else catch that this was already announced last year?

I'll save you a ton of money and get it done in a week or two.
Poison pigeon food.
Problem we are too "sensitive" to solve the problem. We spend money to move the problem somewhere else, so someone else has to deal with it.

Pigeons are part of the food chain. They are prey for hawks. You don't want to poison them because that will in turn poison something you don't want to harm. Stop feeding them and they'll go away. Once again, people need to stop being slobs.

Great - first we kill hundreds of thousands of geese, now lets kill all the pigeons.

WTF is wrong with NYers and their hatred of nature?

I can think of a lot better vermin to get rid of - the human kind!!!!

Enforce the law that states feeding pigeons is illegal.

Van Bramer has become David Weprins protege as far as photo ops.

Anon no. 4: You're exactly right. Unfortunately, the people who enforce those laws don't want to ticket someone's grandma.

Yo, a quarter of a "mil" to prevent pigeon shit from falling like rain drops on our heads?

What state of the art system will prevent "Stonewall" Van Bramer's political horse crap from polluting us?

What about the Woodside LIRR elavator that stopped working because the local drunks keep pissing in it and shorted out the motor?

Does old "Stonewall" Van "B" have a solution for this?

Then there's "Pigeon Park" (as it's know among locals)...adjacent to the 52 St. Lincoln Ave. #7 station.

Jimmy Stonewall Van Bramer cannot wait for Chrissy Quinn to get elected and make him the Deputy Mayor of Culture.

After all, it was prejudice that closed the Davids' All Male Cinema in Times Square and it should be brought back to bring everyone under the cultural tent or at least covers.

That boy is one publicity hound and if you have an event that he thinks he should attend, and he does not get invited too, he goes ape-shit.

Sunnyside and Woodside are full of people who feed these pigeons, and rats also eat their food. I think Jimmy knows that.

The only mitigation of the problem has been when someone has poisoned the pigeons (not the humans who feed them) and that's only good for a few weeks at most.

The bag ladies who feed pigeons and feral cats should be locked up in a nut-hut, and the bill sent to their kids.

Anon No. 8: The park that you're referring to is the one that this article is talking about.

Email from Jimmie!

Before Eloisa Amiama of Woodside reached out to our office she was struggling to keep up with her health care costs after her coverage was terminated without any just cause. Then she rang our office. As a result of our intervention we were able to find a solution and restore Ms. Amiama's health care coverage … Ms. Amiama's triumph represents the 10,000th constituent our office has assisted during my first term.

WOW, THAT MEANS NEARLY A DOZEN PEOPLE A DAY! ONE IS HELPED AND THE OTHERS TOLD TO DIAL 311?

In just just under four years, my office has helped countless constituents with a wide variety of issues, including: illegal drag racing, graffiti on private properties, cleanliness of residential streets, necessary traffic safety improvements, immigration/deportation cases, social services and general quality of life complaints. No issue is too small for our office because we are always here to help.

FIRST ISSUE LISTED IS ILLEGAL DRAG RACING. NOTHING ABOUT HIPSTERS MOVING NEXT TO A TRAIN YARD OR RAISING FAMILIES NEXT TO A SUPERFUND SITE ON THE CREEK?

Mannie Wilson (Ravenswood) - . Our office was able to step in and get NYCHA to expedite work on Ms. Wilson's apartment.

I AM SURE THE SENIORS AT THE CLOSED ST MARY SENIOR CENTER ARE VERY HAPPY FOR HER.

Neil Klein (Queensbridge) - As soon as he realized his rent began to increase he reached out to us for help. We immediately contacted the New York City Housing Authority.

I GUESS THE ARTISTS AT 5 POINTS THAT YOU NEVER MET AND NOW HAVE TO MOVE AND CANNOT AFFORT THEIR RENT CAN FIND SPACE IN A HOUSING PROJECT TO GET NOTICED?

Saadia Youssi (Sunnyside) - After interceding we were able to adjust her son's pick-ups times to an hour that was convenient for their family

NICE THAT A NEW SCHOOL IS BEING BUILT IN THE MIDDLE OF A LOW RISE BLOCK WITH A PLAY GROUND… ON THE ROOF! ANOTHER NEW SCHOOL JUST A BLOCK AWAY. AND SCHOOLS FOR NEWLY ARRIVED HIPSTERS WHILE THE REST OF QUEENS WAITS DECADES FOR NEW BUILDINGS?

Neyda Tejeda (Woodside) - my office was able secure two traffic lights as well as a speed bump for the neighborhood. As a result of our advocacy the corridor has experienced a significant decline in accidents.

WHAT WILL TRAFFIC LOOK LIKE IN A FEW YEARS WITH 10,000 NEW RESIDENTS IN LIC? THEY SUGGESTED A NEW STOP LIGHT WILL HELP TRAFFIC AT SILVERCUP TOO … FOR 4 FIFTY STORY BUILDINGS.

Wendy Chan (Long Island City) - Ms. Chan reached out to our office to ask for a four way stop at 47th Avenue at 5th. we erected "The People's Stop Sign" we got the DOT to install a four way stop sign clarifying the intersection and making it safer for for everyone.

I AM GLAD THE RESIDENTS THAT PROTESTED KAUFMAN ASTORIA STREET GRAB IS STILL PATIENTLY WAITING FOR YOUR MEETING – WHILE THE STUDIO BLOCKS THE SIDEWALK WITH A TEMP SIGN TELLING THE TRUCKS TO USE THEIR STREET FOR PARKING ACCESS.

Their tireless work ethic and dedication to the residents of our district is inspiring.

FINALLY A CORRECT STATEMENT. QUEENSCRAP IS HAVING A FIELDDAY WITH YOU.

Every single day they are on the job they continue to reinvigorate my commitment to the people we continue to serve.

YUP, IN LIC & DUTCH KILLS THEY ARE BEING INVIGORATED RIGHT OUT OF THE COMMUNITY.

I thank them for their hard work and ability to provide our constituents with the nurturing care and assistance they deserve

UM…WHERE IS MENTION OF QUEENS WEST? SEE YOU DOWN THERE ALL THE TIME AND NO MENTION – OR DO THEY GET A SEPARATE FLYER TARGETED FOR THEM TELLING THEM ABOUT HOW YOU HAD SERVICES LIKE LIBRARIES AND SCHOOLS AND … JUMP THE LINE AHEAD OF THE WORKING CLASS AND POOR PEOPLE.
